I would say this is an enjoyable performance, though I felt that at places I was left hanging. I anticipated fire and magic to happen, but didn't get too much.
Trust me, Karn. Too much fire CAN be a bad thing... :)

And sorry that you felt tank was out of place. Next time, we'll dedicate our intro video to building the tank, have our very own, Anu, sing us some gangster song about tanks and then, pull out a banner that says "TANK YOU FOR WATCHING US!". :)

I mean, it may completely kill the surprise component of the tanks being formed out of nowhere and the cool/unique vacuum effect of 12 dancers just vanishing into two tanks which the audience seemed to love, but hey, you're right, because pulling out cardboard signs that say "Call Me Maybe?" while twerking or shooting imaginary basketballs during sialkoti to Space Jam or doing phumania to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aren't random at all and have precursors in the routine. ;) I think you're over thinking gimmicks and their role in routines lol

1. Don't be a dick, answer the critiques or ignore them, but FCB's gimmicks don't have anything to do with what he's saying (plus he wasn't even on FCB for any gimmick you mentioned)

2. FAUJ used to have a lot more military-themed concepts and they've been slowly rotated out of the set. That's a simple reason in my mind that it might feel disjointed to someone watching fauj for the first time. I don't happen to agree because I think the military-theme is clear from the sets, to the vardi so it's obvious why theres a tank. But the argument that ending choreo was not as impactful because half the team is gone for awhile is a fair one. You traded off the impact of 12 on stage for the impact of 2 tanks, and that's fine and it works for your team and maybe not any others, but it doesn't mean that everyone has to like the tradeoff

3. Bout to GIF that fire hand ooooh yea

Lol at you kids.

K, that thing's going to get used a thousand times.

On topic, though, I didn't feel like the military gimmicks were hiding. I mean, hell, the set started with the guys behind sandbags with camo netting all around them and a very obviously militaristic khunde segment (okay, more military video game sound effects than anything, but I'm splitting hairs), as well as the throat slash move, the camo chadre. I mean, it wasn't exactly subtle. The double tanks might have been a bit much, but it was a good set, and they were off stage for eight counts, which is pretty minimal in my mind.

Also, tanks for watching might be a fun one for a wedding performance, K.

nice! you really told that team- esp the one about the phumania which was done 4 years before karn joined that team!

If you put a team on your Profile its fair game to assume they are on the team. Also Kin's post was more of a comparison to help him see why a Tank wasn't "random."

Anyways, your feedback is noted, although it seems like you completely missed the point of what we were trying to do or have been doing for the past couple of years.

Thanks

Abhi's right. I'm not calling out FCB/SCB at all. (BTW, I liked SCB's Fresh Phumania of Bel-Air!) Just trying to make a comparison that he could have potentially related to (by referencing gimmicks his teams have done) and show that entertaining gimmicks, by definition, no matter how amazing, can still random, and that's not necessarily bad.

Love that gif, Swi! It's like bad decision on repeat that I simply just don't learn from. lolol :)

I am not ashamed to admit I went through two trial GIFs to get the timing correct. Worth it. Also I am impressed that you didn't break gaze with the camera while going "shit shit hand stop being on fire"

just curious but what did you use for fuel, hair spray or straight isopropyl alcohol? you could pull something like this off on stage as a gimmick, you would have to use kevlar gloves coated with a flammable gel of some sort.
just found a recipe for flammable gel
http://chemistry.about.com/od/funfireprojects/a/flaming-gel-recipe.htm
you would have to apply a set amount of the gel to the back of the kevlar gloves, i'd recommend back of the fingers to keep the flames as far away from flammable material as possible, maybe have vardiyan sleeves rolled up to the elbows. since kevlar is flame and heat resistant it should burn off the gel once lit without burning your hands. now just need to figure out a way to pull off a hunger games style fire vaardi

"Let's play with real fire, kn...fuck fuck fuck fuck, this is why we shouldn't play with real fire."

Looked like it was an unintentional problem, Hardeep. Lighter must've leaked on his hand or something similar.

the flame spread to his wrist and had a consistent blue color, looks like he coated his hand with something containing alcohol. if the lighter had leaked it would have been mostly on fingers and palm and most lighters burn orange, not sure what the fluid is, and i'm pretty sure lighter fluid flame would have been a little more difficult to extinguish.

Hardeep, the flame spreading to my hand was not intentional. Completely accidental. I really did not intend to singe off the hairs on the back of my hand. lol Magic can be, like, um, SO unpredictable sometimes ;)

Also, Nomex (poly-m-phenylene terephthalate) over Kevlar (poly-p-phenylene terephthalate) for your suggested application. While both have similar fire resistance/thermal properties, the meta linkages (1,3) means that the tenacity is much lower (like a fourth) because the polymer chains can't stack as well as the para linkages (1,4) of the Kevlar. This also means that Nomex can elongated way more before failure so it's more comfortable and more flexible to wear as something like a glove, especially for dancing. Firefighter gear is comprised mostly of Nomex while bullet-proof vest (more rigid, less flexible) is made from Kevlar. (I think you know already, but Polymer Science & Engineering was one of my minors with my Biomedical Engineering degree :) )

solid argument, but one consideration that needs to be made when selecting a material is cost. rigidity, comfort, and modulus of elasticity are factors to consider when comparing molded gloves made of various materials but the kevlar gloves i've used were knitted using kevlar fiber. a package of 12 knitted kevlar gloves can be bought for about $6 whereas a set of 4 knitted nomex gloves costs $53. knitted gloves offer comfort, flexibility, durability, and affordability but they are porous, which is why you would need a very viscous gel which would not seep through the fibers for the application being discussed.

I have to agree with Swi's post here. It's a critique and he's stating his opinion. The back-and-forth isn't necessary. Just take it or leave it, and that's it.

As far as the routine goes, I enjoyed it. It was fun to watch and was a good routine.
-That said, work on general cleanliness as a whole. While most of the routine was clean, there's still that 7% that could be better. Things such as dang stabilization - holding the dang perpendicular to the ground. There were also certain steps/formations where dancers did everything right, but it still looked weird at first glance. Most audience members won't get the second glance, and judges won't get a second glance before judging your performance. I guess while doing run throughs, it's best to ask "how can this look cleaner?"
-Also, I kinda did wish you woulda went with the theme of the comp and played with this whole rivalry thing. Have a tank run over a knight! Go the extra mile! Bring the audience's enjoyment of the set to another dimension.

Overall good job! Keep it up!!
