He wants to come back because he can't make up his mind, and has too much love for the game to completely leave it. In all his interviews, he's always said he second guesses himself everyday after retiring. So I definitely saw this coming. But apparently he doesn't want to come back after all from what I hear now.

They don't want to release him because they don't want him to go and play for another team in the division, since he's shown interest in the Vikings. They want him as a "backup" if he does decide to come back because they've spent all this time transitioning the system to Rodgers.

Honestly, I think Favre should just stop this crap and end this crap. He's way old, last year was a good year to end, he's just gonna go downhill from here if he comes back. He's not what Michael Jordan was to the Bulls if that's what he thinks he'll be if he comes back.

Also, I wanna see Rodgers play because 1. I've loved him ever since he played here at Cal, and 2. He's actually pretty damn talented, and learned from Favre for a while now and should have developed enough to start this year

Gugu,
With all respect, you're tripping bro. Favre has earned the right to do as he wants, and it'd be one thing if he had a bad season last year, but he was definitely a top 5 QB...you don't just throw those away, especially if they are legends. Rodgers will be ready when Favre does decide to hang them up, but you can't deny that Favre can still play. He has amazing chemistry with Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, and the team is poised to make a run at the Super Bowl. I can't imagine there are more than a handful of Packers players that don't want Favre back under center.

AGE shouldn't decide if he come back or not its his talent. He one of the top 5 QB's and he still wants to play so why should he retire. I think he was rushed to a answer and he said no in a hurry. He not gonna play for the packers becuase they moved on with rodgers and their not gonna release him. This is not gonna affect his legacy for sure because Montatna, went from niner's to cheifs , rice went from niner's to arizona to seattle, and jordan went from Chicago to washington. He is the best QB's of all time and deserves what ever he wants.

It's tough to be best all time with only 1 SB in 2 appearances.

I'd say Marino as best at QB position (in terms of just QB ability, guy has 0 help and no receivers) with Peyton coming in close second.
But you gotta put Unitas, Montana, and Elway before Favre at least for the multiple championships and certainly for their leadership and big plays in big games (Favre can destroy a week after his Father unfortunately passes away so we know he can be clutch, but he does have a history of throwing away playoff games, even if you ignore this past season. Michael Vick in Lambeau?).

Vick, Montana had Rice, that's almost unfair to be considered for THE best of all time

I agree Farve has thrown away some games but he can make play that anyone else can even think of. He takes highlights to a whole new level. And no one and i mean no one loves the game more than Farve or has more passion for the game than he does. And speaking of his game he has the records to prove it. Dont complain that others never played as long as him and that the reason for the records. The others had nothing left and couldn't play Brett Farve can still play.

Dude come on...can you seriously not appreciate any player?
starting after a REALLY good QB is hard
you can not assume he is going to suck because he is going to start after Favre
i bet he will kinda suck...but still cant just jump and say "please sit that stupid CAL boy down and tell him to shutup"

Oh I wasn't saying anything against Favre, just feel that he's getting old and hope he ends his career on a good note. I think ending it now will do that. He may come back and still have a 10+ win season, but I doubt he'll be able to repeat what he did last year. Last year he was hungry... now he sounds desperate. Also, he hasn't been part of the team's offseason practices, and won't be part of training camp (at least the beginning of it since I doubt a decision on his return will be made that quick). He's most likely in worse shape than he already was last year.

That being said, he's still more than capable of throwing 35 td's and have a 10+ win season still. I just think that Green Bay's lookin into the future and puttin this behind them. How many seasons will Favre give them... 1/2.. 1.. 2? If they start playin Aaron now, in 2 or 3 years he may become one of the league's premier QBs. Like I said earlier, he's developed behind the scenes under Favre for 3 years now. The guy was one of the best to come out of college (I saw him play here for a year so I know what he's capable of, regardless of what the haters say), was supposed to be the #1 pick that year and Alex Smith came outta nowhere. The one game he did play last year, he went 18-26, against a Dallas defense. So I definitely think that Rodgers won't mess up so much they don't even make playoffs. I still think they'll be a threat this year regardless of who's QB. I'd go with the younger guy and set my future straight and let the past go.

Maybe I'm just sayin all this cuz I've never really liked or cared about Favre and Packers... and Rodgers is my boy ;)

You did read what this little boy told the fans of Green Bay right? I believe he told them all to shut up... Thats pretty bold for a guy who has to prove anything... What is there to appreciate in Aaron? I'm just saying I would rather have Favre start over Rodgers anyday of the week... Hell I'd have Favre start most starting Qb's in the league...

Swi, Marino was a great QB. I would put him on par with Montana.. It's hard to compare the two, Marino threw the ball so many more times and to tell you the truth, I never really followed Miami football...

Somi... what in god's name are you talking about?

----

I love Brett favre as much as the next guy, but theres a time to hang it up. Going back and forth, back and forth, its a disservice to the team. They need to move on from the brett favre era and start the developement of Aaron Rodgers, its the best long term thing for the Packers. What, one more, two more years with favre, maybe getting in the playoffs, and maybe not? Then what, you have a good young QB who lost a couple years of experience.

Green Bay owes a lot more to their fans. If their palnning to put out a consistent good product in the feild, then favre for the short term and sentimentally is great. But, it hinders the overall progress of the team. Rodgers is their future QB, its time. Just hang it up brett, just know when to quit.

hmmm....yeah and what did i say?
I am up for a new QB...I think Favre did what he did.
all i said its hard for any newbie to come after Faver.

I like Favre and think its lame for announcing his 'retirement' and come back...why would someone do that.

for once, i fully agree with summy :)
green bay is doing the right thing by taking a stand and telling favre to suck it and moving ahead with rodgers. once he announced his retirement, and the packers went 100% with backing rodgers, for them to go back on the commitment and go back to favre before training camp opens would be asinine.

and as for greatest of all time at the qb position, the list starts with montana, elway, unitas, brady, and some spots later, marino, simply because of championships. marino was a great numbers quarterback, but without that ring, you can't enter greatest of all time discussion.

I'm still not convinced a ring defines a player completely... Think about Bonds here...
