"At least two women have been detained in France while wearing Islamic veils across their faces, after a law banning the garment in public came into force."

This is similar to the law they had in about 2006 which banned students from wearing religious symbols- many sikhs were expelled and otherwise punished for refusing the remove their paghs.

What does this say about the right of religious freedom in France?

Thoughts?

France has been trying to move towards a secular state for some time now. This is one more step in that direction.
