Really? It's a good solid mix with some great overlays and some decent transitions, but I agree with AnkurK. I'm not seeing its best-mix-winning capabilities. From the videos, a lot of other teams (GoB, JJ..etc) brought hot beats as well. I guess until everyone from the competition posts their mixes, we can't judge.Kush said:This mix will have ruined 90% of any other mixes on the circuit for me. Not just about the hot beats. Quality of mixing matters more to me than who used the new Lil John beat. The levels of every instrument were on point, nothing was overcrowded. There was no unnecessary portions thrown in. It was balanced and blended to perfection. Don't get me wrong, i havent heard every single mix from the comp so to say its the best of them all i guess we have to trust the judges of that aspect. But am i SURPRISED this won best mix? hell no.kinnell said:Really? It's a good solid mix with some great overlays and some decent transitions, but I agree with AnkurK. Keep up the good work, Gsimz.
I guess... maybe i'm just a gsimz groupie.kinnell said:My bad, I meant "hot beats" to mean "hot mixes". I should have made that clearer.
It's a clean balanced mix, something that is rather rare these days and it has some creativity as well. Gsimz is no doubt one of the top mixers in the circuit these days. And you're completely right, clean wins the game.
But honestly, it's not living up to the hype and I have no one to blame but you, Kush.![]()
What do you mean by compression across the board vs. individual tracks? is that just another way of saying he EQed the mix?Kush said:Haha, what compression did you run? did you master individual tracks or just compress across the board? I dropped my old limiter technique for the last two mixes and i think they turned out alot better. Can't wait to listen to this.
You can compress the individual tracks of the mix and then put the mix together, or you can put the mix together and then compress it all at once.Rahul3 said:Kush said:Haha, what compression did you run? did you master individual tracks or just compress across the board? That song was actually a promo by DJ frenzy. And my apologies for not giving him credit earlier. So I basically just added some beats to it.JasBains said:Someone please make a full version to that Jhanjar mix in there. That sounds sick ! Make it happen Gsimz !

wow, well said and karma for giving an amazing and thorough review. You have my vote for judge at any competitions where the mix actually matters. God sometimes i really think my ears bleed when im in the audience listening to a team with 5 different songs mixed at once with completely different pitches. Causing damage to your audiences ears should result in points taken away.HarmanToor said:Great work Gsimz! One of the few remixers that pulls through time and time again.
I think in terms of clarity and quality and raw talent this mix deserved first at that competition but I feel the song selection in some parts of the mix could have been better, the intro was so sick until truck jatt da instrumental.. it just wasnt carrying the same pump flow as the other two instrumentals in the
intro section of the mix, but folk kalian was done very very well and brought the folk pump back right away.. diljit track mixed with the dhol cd promo was smart and nicely done.. jatt paun boliyan was a good choice for a slow down and mixed well.. chanjar I wasn't feeling, but thats because I hate the song in general.. the mix was clean and well done, moving on to jhoomer folk kalian does it once again with kicks that compliment it well.. dhamaal was dhamaal, I liked the minimal mixing on it, minor boosting was needed and you pulled it off well, gabru putt punjab de was a sick fucking mix, I don't think it could b done better than that but it ended too soon lol, wasnt feeling kaum sheran di mix since its a tough song and tabla was the wrong choice to enhance the toughness of the lyrics.. 20 step was a good mix, folk n fusioned.. tohar punjaban di I wasnt into, but thats because I grew up listening to the ustad lal singh batti mix which is just too folk lol.. ending was well but I wasnt feeling the rangla punjab outro, a more pump instrumental could have been used to leave the audience with a wow feeling
quality for quality, effects for effects this mix hands down deserved best mix award, just wasn't feeling some the song selection and some of the ideas.. if you had the right songs, no doubt at all you'd create a legendary mix because you got the skills to make it.. I feel material is what was dragging you down in this mix.
