Saw this, obviously the judge didn't do his HW and doesn't know anything about Gatka, which is an art of defense. And he shouldn't make an opinion about something he has no knowledge about.

That guy is ignorant. He clearly has no understanding of Shashtar Vidya and is speaking out of his ignorance. If every child were taught Shashtar Vidya and lived what it is about, their would be no violence or war. I would ask this guy to read India's history and pay attention to India would be when it was under Mughul rule and Afghani invasion.

I can def. see where Sajid is coming from when he was trying to explain himself.
Sorry but I disagree with you guys post and the other people as well who I heard from about this topic.

- All Sajid said that he didn't like a sword in a child's hand. If this wasn't Gatka and just an act and you saw kids playing around with swords I bet you would have a different opinion especially if you were a parent.

- Kiran def. explained herself really well because Gatka is about self defense and not violence but if you watch the video right after Sajid pressed the button it was craziness on the stage.

-Why were the judges scared as hell the whole time. It looked scary.
Also didn't like the guy's answer "We are Scary."

- The presentation was not that well altogether.

On the other hand I love Gatka don't get me wrong and would love to learn it one day. One of my main purpose of going to the parade's is to go watch it lolz

But it wasn't an act. These kids are students and have been taught the proper way to treat a Shashtar and what comes with practicing Gatka. This was not a child playing with a sword, it was a student of martial arts practicing their art with knowledge of the responsibility and background of the art.

I am willing to bet that if you saw that child's training you would see how well disciplined and responsible they are with their art.

well i think its actually a good example of an reenactment of how sikhs use to fight back in the early years since their weren't any guns or anything like that. just plain swords n shields. another thing, i liked the fact that the little kid was in there too. a really good example that not only men or women fight, as well as small kids are ready for battle for there faith anytime. examples of guru gobind singh ji's sons

not even touching upon the practicality and the history of gatka because lets just assume that these judges no nothing about it. What is extremely ignorant is when the middle dude is like, martial arts are supposed to showcase so and so, but then you guys turned it into this big fight blah blah so your promoting violence. Who is he to say and judge that they are promoting violence when in all truth and honesty, its part of the martial arts demo. A martial arts demo (demonstration) is a showful repersentation of what that martial art actually is. Gatka isnt a martial art about flashy kicks and cartwheels. Its a wartime martial art, and what did they re-enact...a war time martial art..just as it should have been done. No martial art ever stems from a group of people who enjoy violence. Karate sprouted out of okinawa to defend against japanese invaders. Krav Maga emerged in israel as an army hand to hand combat system. And his comment of i dont like seeing a sword in a kids hand. Im sorry, then maybe that little kid doing bhangra shouldnt be using a saap because its dangerous. Point is...both are essential to its respective art form and to say that you dont want to see a child who has been trained and discplined in the art form using it, is quite ignorant and wrong. Shastar (including talwaara) are essential to the sikh martial art. You cant just say oh its a bad example if you put a sword in the hand of a child, when this child has definately been learning from an ustaad from a very young age as to how to not only use a talwaar but also the respect and discpline required to use shastar.

Sidenote: the judge all the way to the right....throughout the performance when she was covering her face with her chunee acting all scared....it was quite infuriating...its like when a little kid acts scared to get attention

I love how the middle judge is trying to convince the other judge that the act was offensive... yes, spread the ignorance... that's EXACTLY what we need...

Martial arts cannot ever be judged with such bias. If so, then all of them promote violence of some sort.

What Sajid did is deplorable and ignorant as hell...I respect Sikhs so much for defending their religion...kids, adults, LONG HAIR DONT CARE...Kids promoting violence? How about kids promoting their religion and its defense?

I don't think Sajid is really criticizing Gatka as a martial art form or how its practiced. He's just saying that he doesn't like to promote a child on television with a weapon because it would encourage children to engage in violent acts..period.
