If you want a MacBook Pro, I can hook you up. My friend works at Apple so he gives legit discounts. My sister got a MBPro for $700, brand new in the box with the receipt all registered. It's the $1400 too. :)
I'll be dropping you a text very soon ;)

thanks for replying guys. and sorry i didnt add specs to my post, i sorta just wanted a general and more of a user perspective of different laptops. I didnt want to have you guys do my hunting for me, but maybe just some direction and whats a good bang for the buck.

something saleem mentioned i should do, which i forgot. i would like for it to have a 15in + display

Another thing ill clear up is the price. i wouldnt mind paying fair money for something thats worth it, so i put the limits around $2,000; but i didnt mean for it to really border that high range, but rather for people to give suggestions as to why laptops range up there, my mistake though.

i really do appreciate all the info though, very helpful. feel free to keep adding

Agreed. I bought a very portable 13.3" one last year and I love it. My sister is looking for a similar computer now and this is a great deal for such a compact laptop (3.5 lbs, I think it is). Core i3, Switchable Nvidia graphics, 8 cell battery, plus everything else youd expect.

Lenovo Thinkpad...or Ideapad.

I have a t410i. This is clutch. Who else can poor water on their keyboard and watch an HD movie without any glitches?

If you're worried about viruses...simple solutions:
Don't check spam
Don't go to dumbass websites
Don't click on popups
Get a simple antivirus like Kaspersky.

PC > Mac. It's just a fad people...viruses will be more prone to attack Macs when the consumption goes up. Hackers will have a reason to start attacking the "impenetrable" Leopard OS

I have a feeling you're about to get PM'ed by a shit-ton of BTF'ers

O and for the rest of you looking into Mac's, wait it out a month or two and apple does their usual get a free ipod with the purchase of a computer and apple also has a student discount which knocks off 100 bucks off the cheaper 13" MB Pro and more off the others and what alot of people don't know is there's also a 100 dollar printer rebate so if the printer is only a 100 bucks its free also. and the "ipod touch" promo isn't actually limited to ipod touch its any ipod that you want but they have a set thing on what capacity you can pick up on each one (usually the lowest but not always) read the little disclaimer at the bottom.

So $1200 MP Pro 13" - $100 student discount - $200 ipod touch - $100 printer = $800 MB Pro and some things that you might just buy anyway :)

O the sony Z-series is amazingly lightweight if that's something that matters to you, but its a little pricey

O yea, if you buy a laptop at bestbuy they offer a few different protections plans well 2 one tht covers only manufacture defects, the other that covers accidental damage also (water, food, dropping it) its at a few different plan lengths which get kind of expensive but what most people don't realise is that once its been so long for example say you get the 2 year one w/ accidental damage and 1 year 11 months later you break your laptop pretty bad, like the screen and keyboard fell apart, well 2 years down the line they probably won't have tht same exact laptop anymore so many times they'll just give you credit for the laptop and now you got urself another newer laptop at the price of w/e the protection plan was :)

+1, its funny when ignorant people justify buying a mac based on the "virus" excuse.
PC>mac, better technology, more selection, for lower price
windows>mac os

I had a mac for about a year. I got annoyed w/ it in about 8 months. Its just an overprice hunk of metal. ITs great for school work, and thats about it. THe software for mac is so limited, thats its annoying.

Go for a PC.

Agreed. Even easier, Microsoft offers a free antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

It's free, effective, and lightweight. No one should ever need to buy Norton, nod32, or others unless perhaps in an enterprise setting.

I have to disagree that Mac's are overrated. I've had mine for 3 years, and I have had 0 issues. Speed is phenomenal. My friends with Mac's don't have issues. My friends with PC's have issues with a bunch of hardware and software malfunctions or viruses.

No question Microsoft/PC based computers are the norm esp in the business world, but Mac's are more than worth it.

Speed? Both Mac and Windows computers use the same Intel chips, same 2-4gb ram, same disks.

If you have multiple viruses on your computer, very simply, you're doing it wrong. Don't install malicious toolbars and you are not really the 1,000,000th visitor.

Secondly, I'm not sure of the usefulness of a laptop after 3 years. I guess my laptop from 3 yrs ago is still very capable (core duo I think, 4gb ram, win7) but with improvements in tech since then, if my computer was important to me, I'd buy a new one (I did, because that was 15.4" and my new one is very portable, 13.3" and 3.5 lbs

My Friend, SGill93 sir, I would like to congratulate you on the end of your quest for a new PC. Your search ends here. Love the specs and can't beat the price. I will probably be getting one soon so we can be friends walkin around with our matching asuses (asi?)

Or if youre feeling indecisive, an hour on newegg or tigerdirect a day keeps the doctor away
