and when did they put his statue, like after 50 years of freedom? all i am saying is every single one deserve equal credit. not only bhagat singh or gandi
Dude, GandHi. How are you still messing that up after Mr. Varunjit called us ALL out on your mistake? We don't want him to go back to his friends in Punjab and be like "These BTF kids are trying to discuss Indian history & politics and they can't even spell Gandhi's name! Talk about epic FAIL." stop making us look bad to India! :p

I don't think its plausible to have every freedom fighter/patriot be given the same credit -- it's so subjective in nature.

Punjabis love Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh, Rajputs love Pritvirah Chauhan, Bengalis etc, and you get the picture -- a lot more folks deserved credit, at least some credit (not barely any) than just Gandhi, and Gabru13 is just expressing his grievance on that matter.

-- That statue of S. Bhagat Singh is disturbing...it resembles any Congressi/BJP politician...=/

While we're on the matter, I know he was mentioned before, but I just wanna say Tipu Sultan was a G. went down defending his city and all, if you don't know a lot about him -- def search up on him.

Commentary by Sir Walter Scott regarding Napoleon --

"Although I never supposed that he [Napoleon] possessed, allowing for some difference of education, the liberality of conduct and political views which were sometimes exhibited by old Haidar Ally, yet I did think he [Napoleon] might have shown the same resolved and dogged spirit of resolution which induced Tipu Sahib to die manfully upon the breach of his capital city with his sabre clenched in his hand"

Its pretty simple why Gandhi is on the note and someone like, say Raje Shivaji isn't. Shivaji was a staunch pro-Maharashtrian king who was well known for his rebellions against the Mughal (read: Muslim) masters. Such an act would alienate Muslim populations (which is exactly why Hindutva parties like Shiv Sena use him as his mascot). Prithviraj Chauhan would be a tip of the hat to the Rajput monachies of yore which the newly formed Indian republic did not want to acknowledge (especially right when they were stealing their kingdoms to form federalist states). Porus got his ass beat by that manlover Sikander.

Gandhi is completely safe because he openly preached love for all the ethnicities of India, but his actual politics definitely showed that he was not open minded to truly Revolutionary ideas (of Bhagat Singh, Bose, etc.) Still, when creating nationalist symbols for integration purposes, the Indian govt did not look for historical accuracy. They looked for political correctedness (intl recognition/martyrdom didn't hurt either). The safer the political symbol, the more easily it will be digested by the wide ethnic and religious gentry. For more on such revisionist histories, look at the Mexican Revolution and how its "heroes" have become national symbols when in reality Villa, Madero, Zapata, etc all equally hated each other and had their own motives.

The true freedom fighter that won India its independence was WWII. Thank god that shit destroyed Europe's economy or else colonial powers like Britain and France would never relinquish their empires

SOOOOOO ON POINT VARUN.

With the topic at hand and all the names discussed, what would be the 5 best books to read and learn about all this. I would like to respond to this, but becuase i dont have the background or knowledge on this, I'd like to read up on it first.

tipu sultan's life was pretty badass indeed. if there was a videogame of indian rulers he would most likely be a high level boss.
