Hey BTF! Here's a video from this weekend! Shout out to our amazing liaisons Divya and Shilpa for helping us out and taking such good care of us all weekend!! Congrats to First Class Bhangra and Cornell for placing 1st and 2nd and to all of the competing teams. We are so fortunate to have competed and placed at Dhol Di Awaz and Bhangra in the Burgh this semester.

What did you guys think about the audio? I had a dedicated recorder on stage at this show (first time ever) to record local performer ambience. This is why the shikay sound so crisp. However, because there is so much going on in terms of audio (3 feeds downmixed into 1) I had to run it through a compressor, which does (to a trained ear) effect the audio when there's a peak in levels. So briefly, to you guys, does it sound good, should I continue this in the future?

Damn I'm in love with the girls in red and dark blue! Wicked dancers!!
- this is my kind of routine, you guys have mastered being extremely clean but the only thing your lacking in your set that might take you over the top is a faster paced routine, better starting, stronger ending, and maybe just better songs. Routine is folk but very slow and just not pleasing enough to place. If this routine was paced a bit faster and you guys had better opening n ending segments with staying that clean I have no doubt you would place in a comp such as burgh! Reguardless beautiful job guys! Stay folk

Definitely a noticeable difference in audio quality!

Also, on behalf of GMU, I wanted to give a shout-out to all the individuals who helped us out with our paghan. Our tier was unable to make it to the competition, and it was awesome that UVA, VCU, and CMU were all more than willing to lend us a hand on short notice.

Great job GMU! I think overall you guys did a great job and you seem to have pretty consistent dancers throughout who will only improve with time and practice. I do want to mirror one of the above comments though; I think you will benefit by upping the pace/intensity of your intro. Maybe after the triple spin with the shikke around 1 minute in the vid, a song/tempo change could do the trick. It would hit so hard and really give a strong impression. The reason I say this is because the entire first half (and then some) is more relaxed, and I'm just trying to think of what would elevate this to a 1st place. You guys have the potential and I hope to see y'all do well at other comps, congrats again!

I think there's a fine line between laziness and grace, and I'm not exactly sure which side of the spectrum I would rate this routine. I think it's certainly different, and that works to your advantage. But, I wasn't a fan of some of your dancers not lifting their feet during certain segments. Congratulations on the placing though =)

I just have a couple of points to put in from my opinion

1. Execution was very well done from most of all dancers, except like Psant said below some dancers did not pick up their legs fully on some parts, I dont know if they thought that was being graceful or not but they did stand out.

I think there's a fine line between laziness and grace

2. I feel like the mix was very slow, there should have been a little more pace to the set overall.

3. I loved the song selection, choreo, and mix it flowed extremely well!

4. The Ferozi girls nakhraa was amazing

Great song selection in my opinion, I loved the billi akh step at 3:48 haha!

This set was mad graceful. However, with being graceful doesn't mean you get to be lazy which I felt there were parts where some dancers were. What happens is that you try to be so graceful that you forget to extend and complete your move. For example in jeona morr (1:41) you guys got lazy in leg extension. Another point would be for the guys to lift their legs higher. Getting the balance while being graceful is something to consider. But overall I loved the set, it was superb! Red guy is mad graceful! Girls in red and blue killed this set! Nakhra was on point as well! Congrats once again!

Set definitely had some interesting choreo.


Individually, nakhra was sick. But as Karan pointed out, the nakhra between jodhis seemed to be lacking.

As far as energy goes this set, as a whole, seemed more graceful than energetic
