janaam din diyaan laak laak waahiyan kanaydah jee...

The best country in the world, the greatest nation by far. Thats actually my heart speaking not the media and the self loathing political figures telling me to say that (like our neighbours down south). Diversity, multi culturalism, cleaniness, heart, respect for other nations, reduced dependency on foreign oil, part of the peace keeping side of the world, not the pissing contest side. The world's finest and most affluent peaceful country, Canada.

Kanaydah jee, raab ne baaniya joordiyaan, ohne tere mere mail kariyehh

Too bad celebrations had to be runied with a bhangra performance. I am just sad that Indians have to show their appreciation in the matter of a Bhangra celebration, when we have so much to be thankful for.

But as usual, Bhangra sweeps the important things underneath the carpet of.... LETS HAVE FUN YO.

Toronto is much more beautiful than Vancouver. Compared to Toronto, Vancouver has penis envy.

Jaideep,

What am I kdding about? IF you want to say something, come out and say it. I am serious, chumchay in the punjabi community will be the biggest downfall of the community. Where do you find these people who cant speak their language right, dont have a clue about the past, present or current culture of punjab, and only are attached to a type of music that downgrade their own community? The bhangra crowd.

There are so many other things than the Indian people could have done to show our tremendous appreciation for Canada. Dancing to songs that make us look bad isnt one of them.

Jaideep come out and say something and we will talk.

PS- Just for reference those who claim bollywood as a negative protrayer of punjabis, sardars and sikhs, look at what we pump out of punjab and what youth in the west take pride in (ie- alcohol, jatt this and that, partying etc)

Sidhu veer, there is nothing wrong with two educated people having a discussion on how to better our community. Perhaps I wont talk the way I talk on POL, but to say the discussion is not warranted is not fair.

Every kid who perpetuates this buisness should consciously know what he or she is supporting, and what mentality it is setting into the young generation.

Every kid should feel a sense of responisbility to carry their parents culture out proud, and when they are not, they should be aware.

So, yes lets discuss, but maybe not the way as on POL.

By the way, I dont even want to discuss all out anymore, its falling upon deaf ears. I'll just take the extremist approach, and educate my kids, and my family how to represent our culture well. And as the culture disipates and breaks down, and the stories staright coming out (ie murders at after parties, and reports on the lack of punjabi involvement in the youth, the loss of language)...

Ill just have a big fat I told you so.

Summy, you are not part of a bhangra team nor do you even like bhangra. On POL you made fun of us by saying we are "cowards dancing in skirts" and now you say "we can't speak our language and we have no knowledge about our culture." So, taking into account all this hate you have towards the bhangra community, why would you even join a website entitled BHANGRAteamsforum.com
At the end of the day does it really make you feel any better that you preached to some members of an online forum? I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you. If being ignorant and acting like you're so much better than everyone else is the only way you can fall asleep at night, then so be it. I pity your kind.

Summy,

there have been some good discussions on this forum about non-bhangra stuff, so I'm not in the chorus that thinks you shouldn't be here.

However, this is not Punjab Online, this is BhangraTeam'sForum and, as such, part of participating here is an implication that one has, at some point, been a part of the Bhangra community, which as far as I know you fail. As such, you don't particularly carry any leverage as compared to another poster who might post irrelevant points in a topic.

I'm not saying don't post, or even don't post what you want. But please make a separate thread. There have been some good comments and some thoughtful responses. If you truly care about your cause, then don't bring POL shock tactics. As you yourself admitted, different forum, new opportunity to hold worthwhile discussions. I for one agree with you on a point, but would rather not bring it up here.

Canada is sweet. Thanks for the oil guys. oh and SGPD and other CA teams

Jaideep, quite possible has the quote of the year right here... "So, taking into account all this hate you have towards the bhangra community, why would you even join a website entitled BHANGRAteamsforum.com"

OHHHH, so the argument is now down to legistics and semantics. Gotta love your responses.

Dont aruge my accusations with intelligent responses, argue it with semantics and legistics. Got it. Jaideep, Look at yourself, in that picture. Your supposed to be a man. Thats all I have to say.

Swi,

Yeah I totally agree with what you said. I was justing commenting on how bhangra sholdnt have been done in that celebration because it supposed to represent our community. We have so much more to offer than just that dance. Recently the sikh community has come under fire because of idiots like the Babbar Khalsa have taken funding from the government, and some officials have gone to vaishaki day parades sponosred by some banned organizations.

Rather than sweeping these problems nder the rug, there should have and could have been a presentation that represented our community well. I am not saying talk about these politics, that would be done. But many other commnities had shows, full cultral displays, and the indian community what really left looking very dumb and superficial.

I dont care to discuss this anymore, I mean the harmful nature of bhangra. Mainly because at a wedding I attended a while ago, there was a bhangra team, not going to say who, but a team that becasue discuss quite frequently on POL. I saw then after they performed, drinking the liquor, and when I apporached them and spoke to them in punjabi, telling them they should leave, one idiot responded to me in english the whole time, and the other guy who ATTEMPTED to speak punjabi, just made me and my friend laugh at his attempts.

Then im like, we'll this cant be everyone, but its the majority. The majority of the community is LOST. Therefore, just come on here, talk sports and other things, let the bhangra people blow the culture from inside out.

The day you guys realize that maybe we shold have passed down more values to our children then just bhangra, and we should have learn how to read, write and speak the language correctly, is the day my kids make fun of your kids the way they should.

Good post swi.

Summy, I actually agree with a lot of your assessment of bhangra teams today. I started a topic earlier in which I said bhangra teams contributed to the problems in the bhangra community, and asked what we should do to address them. Unfortunately, most people said their was no problem and that bhangra teams were doing good for Punjabi culture. But their have been topics which were discussed in a mature way without personal insults relating to some of these issues before you began posting.

If you want people to have a real discussion on the issues you have, which are completely legit, try and post your issues in a respectable way- without personally attacking peoples' height, weight, body fat percentage, clothing style, etc. Stick to the issues and maybe people will engage in dialogue. Otherwise, you will continue to be ignored and looked at as a guy just desperate for attention.

Harman Singh,

I am glad you understand the problem> Ultimately, I dont have a problem with you. I said this to another guy who told me I should speak differently. As long as some people understand the situation, and understand that as older people, in our 20's we have a responsibility to the younger generation.

We had the luxury of our parents speaking punjabi, convering, taking care of the responisbilites of punjab, so we could run off and dance bhangra. But what about our kids, do you realize all the problem assoicate with those poor guys. They are going to recieve this sorry culture, dragged through the mud by children more interested in partying than providing a wholistic display of our culture.

If I ever decide to put effort into try to say something to guys, then I will address it differently. I am waiting for an article to be completed by this youth committee, and this Non profit in the UK about the damaging effects of the second generation youth and bhangra. I might post that, I might not.

Take care,
Summinder.
