apart from this website going live, is this comp open to live teams as well? I know historically y'all haven't been but it doesn't hurt to ask.

We want to showcase diversity and the best of Bhangra at the competition. The more diversity the better as we want to showcase Bhangra with different formats (modern, traditional, live), different locations and different styles. The goal is to promote Bhangra through the competition. Thus, ALL styles are welcome and encouraged to apply!

definitely agree with your point about the judges, i believe this is the first time in the history of BBC that they've had properly qualified judges, random fun fact is that all the judges this year have been involved with performances which placed at BBC in the past either via dancing/captaining/choreographing. whoever suggested these judges definitely knows something about bhangra.
