Help ASAP-- Computer Tech's

Hey guys,

So my sound is not working on my laptop. Have no idea whats wrong same thing happened like 2 weeks ago i restarted the whole computer and now its gone again. I think whenever i plug in my microphone headset it goes away. Some one please help me out.

does the laptop detect the sound card? when you try to adjust sound, does the slider move or is missing/grayed out? usually when you plug in headphones, your internal speakers will be disabled... i have, on a rare occasion, seen where the actual phones jack is defective and thinks the headphones are plugged in all the time, thus disabling onboard speakers...
