Help Getting some Contact Info - Naach Vention

Hey Everyone,

Its been awhile since I've posted on any forum and the 1st time I'm posting here. I actually need some help getting some contact info, preferably a phone number, for one of the organizers of Gotham Bhangra, or Gotham Remix (whatever the competition ended up being named). I believe it was put together by Naach Vention.

Long story short they asked me to judge the competition and told me I would be reimburse for my travel expenses but never have and its been several months. I have a chain of emails from them telling me they would reimburse me and then they went to even saying they would only pay for half and I would have to contact the sponsors for the other half (which is ridiculous).

I would warn anyone or team if they were to ever do a competition again to be wary dealing with them and if anything don't. Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

NaachVention also did not reimburse Yale Bhangra the $200 registration fees we paid after we pulled out after learning about the date change. We took this matter to the Yale College Deans who reviewed our correspondences with NaachVention. The contract we signed had the first date on it...After many, many unanswered emails to the committee, I asked our deans to help out. The Yale College Deans wrote this letter 1.5 months ago and we have not received any response to date:

Dear Deepika Shah, Amir Keshwani, and Mahani, Organizers of Naachvention 2008,



We write on behalf of the Yale Bhangra Society, a registered undergraduate organization in Yale College and a Resident Group of the Asian American Cultural Center. [Identifying information edited out]. In particular, we write to support Yale Bhangra Society?s inquiry into the status of reimbursement with respect to the organization?s participation at NaachVention 2008.



We understand from the organization?s membership that the group decided it could not participate in NaachVention, and that it communicated this decision to event organizers well in advance of the scheduled conference dates. Yale Bhangra Society did, indeed, receive response to its original communication. The response offered as a possibility Yale Bhangra Society?s attendance at another future event; it did not, however, specifically address the organization?s request for reimbursement. Copies of these communications made reference to NaachVention?s policy of allowing for the return of registration fees provided that the prospective participants provide legitimate reason for the same. This written policy, however, does not define what constitutes legitimate reason. We could not identify posted deadlines after which payment of registration fees would no longer be considered. Neither could we find information on the process for initiating such inquiries or for submitting appeals of decisions rendered with respect to the same.



It has been our experience in attending and hosting conferences at Yale that clearly defined guidelines with respect to advance notice of withdrawal?while it generally carries a sliding penalty fee of partial reimbursement or the complete loss of funds as determined by the scheduled deadline(s)?is a core business practice. We would argue that full reimbursement to the Yale Bhangra Society should be considered in light of the organization?s notice to NaachVention organizers and in consideration of the ambiguity of the program?s existing policy for the reimbursement of conference registration fees. We would thus hope that you might favorably consider the organization?s appeal and that you might also consider additional clarification to this policy?not only for the benefit of Yale Bhangra Society, but also in the interest of other student organizations at Yale, and elsewhere, that look forward to participating in NaachVention in the future.

*shakes head* waiting for nyc to have a real, quality bhangra competition. i just went through my facebook inbox b/c i had a conversation with one of their organizers. looks like her name is Deepika Shah, but I can't get to a profile or see what network or anything. either she went into stealth mode or deleted her fb account hah. good luck with the funds, guys.

This is Lavesh from Natya Academy's Gabroo Alliance. We tied with Bankian Naraan for first place at Gotham City Remix. We were one of the only teams from out of town as well. As of yet, we have not received ANYTHING. If you include the total costs of winning and travel expenses, Naachvention owes us $1800!!!. In the original registration packet, they said that they would fully reimburse teams for travel costs. Now they claim that they will only give us half, because they changed the competition from Gotham City Bhangra into Gotham City Remix (that means that they owe us $1500 instead).
Like Govind, I was trying to find the original packet which was for bhangra, but when I downloaded the Gotham City Remix one from email, it had the same name as the Gotham City Bhangra competition, so it saved over the original packet. I also worked for a lawyer this summer, so I was talking to him about what I could do. Since we all signed our names for the Gotham City BHANGRA competition, that is the contract we are under. If anyone has the original bhangra packet, please send that to me. I have sent NaachVention about 20 emails regarding this. They havent got back to me in a while, but they did say that we would get the money in "installments". I dont know what that means, because it has been over 4 months since the competition and I havent seen any money yet. I did threaten to post on POL and BTF, but they said we do not care at all. I say we boycott this organization till all the teams get paid. I talked to Bankian Naraan as well, and they havent got their money yet (as of a few weeks ago).

Surprise surprise a competition that hasn't even paid the winners. What BS. I actually threatened to get in touch with my lawyers because I think its ridiculous that this competition promised something and can't stick with its promises.

This reminds me of when Blowout didn't pay us, RU Bhangra at the time, and I had to get the University lawyers involved. Yale, I would suggest you guys do the same. GW finally paid us after 9 months and a letter from Rutgers lawyers.

Wow...I thought we were the only one with issues with NaachVention...

I've never ever seeen an organization with so many complaints....not only with how the competitions of this organization are run, but also their dealings afterwards...

I think it is safe to say that given all these complaints...not many teams will be applying, but as I said before because of the high volume of teams, there probably still be teams that wanna dance..

but for those that apply to a competition in nyc....be wary.

NV was like an entire series of several dance comps which was to include GCB which ended up being remix, and some other ones to like NYC Nasha or something....I think Royale people are a different batch of folks...

never been part of this competition but it pisses me off knowing the unprofessionalism of this organization and what teams have to go through. These people need to be confronted face to face and fess up to whatever issues they may have as an organization and not give empty promises.

straight deserves a beatdown...get your lawyers/deans involved, post it on BTF/POL expose them so that future teams are not going through this hell.
