High School Bhangra see for yourself (NBC)

These are a group of kids from high school who spent 3 months on this routine and performed for a high school multi-cultural show. They call themselves NBC (national bhangra crew) which you can see by the performance they are obviously nowhere close to national. Some of them go to my school and tried to have me perform with them. As you know now, this is why I had declined.

Wow Paul I'm not sure why *any* of the negativity towards this group is necessary. Every team starts somewhere and, beyond that, every dancer starts somewhere. I applaud any group of dancers who in HS can put together a routine, get saaps/daangs and vardiyan to look as close to 'folk' as possible. in HS (this was in like 1980 ;) ) my 'bhangra' dance was in non-matching kurta pajamas or matching jeans/tshirts lol.

So honestly, thanks for the link but putting them down is completely unnecessary.

They're really not THAT bad at all given their situations.

I give you props for not being anonymous when trashing a team, but being a new bhangra team with a cocky name really isn't good enough reason. You need a good reason to call a team out. If they claim to have been taught by an ustaad from Sardar College, claim to have dancers from Nachdi Jawani, have a boliyan sung by Bindrakia and say they got into Bruin Bhangra but dropped out immediately before they announced the line-up, then feel free to enlighten us with that information.

But as everyone else said above, you got lame reasons. Calling themselves National Bhangra Crew isn't really blasphemy. Heck, I'm not Spartan nor do I know what "Truskool" really means.

It amazes me how one can criticize me, sorry how many can criticize me without knowing that this teams history and background. First off these are a group of kids who have repeatedly claimed to have been better than teams such as Khalsa Junction, Heeray Punjab Dey, and United Bhangra. Not only this, but this same group had continuously recited that they could perform better than the Heeray Punjab Dey performance of DDA 2009. This post was meant to show them that not only have they embarrassed the name of bhangra, but the meaning of competition. I know that my team has not established much to be cocky off however, we do not go running around making such claims. And recently, the captain of this team had challenged us to a "battle" against them. So whoever posted that i need to get off the cocky juice, please find the right person to say that too. And for anyone else whom I have still offended, I am sorry for it. Thank You.

How does posting their video on BTF teach them anything or do anything? They have the right to claim anything they want. Who really cares? If they claim this outwardly to the Bhangra circuit and flop in a competition performance, that will be enough to reflect poorly on them. All you've done is stoop down to an immature level...

AK is right, no one here knew they existed till you brought it up, so you've given them 'national attention' where they had none. good job. Let the competitions deal with them

We rag on people all the time here Paul, how many LBC copies have we posted and laughed about? (at least 7) The point was how you posted. Your tone was condescending and pretentious, a bad combination, and you ended with "you see why I declined [to dance with them]", thus making it all about how you are better then them. We haven't seen you dance, we don't know how good you are, you carry no credit here and yet you're bashing some kids who, to be honest, are not terrible for a high school team

All we're saying is that, from what you posted initially, we see someone who thinks they are much better than this group, but instead of joining and helping as a captain, decides to post their video. And instead of asking for critiques, just assumes everyone is going to make fun of them. So you were condescending, pretentious, and presumptuous, that's the definition of a douche bag. I don't know you, but I'm telling you how you look on btf right now.

Don't reply to this, seriously. Just read it, take what you will from it and move on with your life.

+1. My thoughts exactly. I can claim that I'm better than Michael Jordan, Kobe Byrant, and Lebron James combined at basketball.. but does that mean shiat unless I can back up my words? Let them actually compete against teams in real competition to see if they back up what they preach.

Discouraging people who attempt their best to embrace their culture (or in this case, a cultural dance form) by posting a video of one of their FIRST performances from a high school show is just wrong. It seems like you have beef with members of their team that needs to be dealt with outside of BTF, instead of trying your best try drag us into this/have your back on this slander.

I feel that gets thrown out there too often. People who claim to do bhangra to preserve their culture. I'm not saying that people don't do it to preserve their culture. But for the vast majority of people, that's not the real reason.

There's a difference between doing Bhangra to "embrace" the culture and doing it to "preserve" the culture. Although I agree with you in that most people don't dance for the sole purpose of keeping Bhangra alive, I do think that many people learn and compete in order to enjoy a cultural aspect in their life and to have a feeling of connection with their roots.
