Piarpreet,

Make sure you feel tired before going to sleep. I work from 2pm till 10pm and by the time I get home, I am usually tired. If not, I usually end up doing 2 sets of pushups and having a protein shake right after. This puts me to bed right away.

Believe it or not, listening to Kirtan/Gurbani will relax your mind and helps you get some sleep.
ya... i said i already tried it in the post... it didnt work. Even asa di var (which i find the most tedious and monotone of banis) or snatam kaur (which prolly the most relaxing kirtan ive ever heard).... but nah...

@ amandeep: what is to blaze a spliff? i dont think it sounds too good, but wanna know. lol

@hayer: dude i tried that too, when i was travelling... and the funny thing is that i felt tired as hell a lil too early, and then messed up my schedule for like a week hahahah its like a jet lag kinda feeling

@singh boy: melatonin is a substance that is very easily absorbed by the body and your body gets used to it fast. i have tried it before... it helps u fall asleep but not keep it up forthe night, plus after 2 weeks it does no longer have the same effect. My body is anti drugs yo, cos it doesnt matter which meds they precribed me...after 2 weeks its like: hmm...so... hi...piarpreet....hmm...we got all night....ya....lok at the ceiling... wow...there is a truck outside...dominos is getting delivery...hmm...they wont let me sleep....i can hear a drunk guy walkin...

@2nyce: dude i dont wanna try that drank thing...it looks like some shady jonky shit lol.... hahahaha

@panic at the bhangra: ya making lists is something i do often but it keeps me thinking...i have this app on my iphone for lists... and then u know i switch apps, and end up either on facebook stalking people at 4 am or playing solitaire hahahah.

guys i need magic i think lol....but thanx for the advice

whats funny is that i am very effective at taking naps...damn. it smell my bedsheetz and ZzzzzZzzzzzZzzzzzZ !

if all else fails jus have someone hit you in the back of the head with a dandha every night.

the only negative consequences are longterm for the most part.

A glass of warm Baileys or two always puts me to sleep before a flight. Kinda like a warm glass of milk, but so much better :)

The fact that you're very effective at taking naps is a pretty good indication of your problem...lol

stop taking naps-- either you take naps cuz you havent slept enough the previous night or you take naps and then you cant sleep the coming night lol. both ways, redbull it up whenever you desire a nap. i think thatll do the trick...

honestly i had the same problem and i asked my doctor and hes like there could be many reasons like too much light in your bedroom, bad air quality (no im not joking), or even your matress/pillow (too hard or too comfy etc etc). if its really serious then it could be a sleeping disorder (you would have to go for a sleep-apnia test (dont know if thats spelled right) ... what i did was i flipped the side of my matress, tried a new pillow and used a blind-flind for when i slept (theres a huge ass street lamp outside my window and its bright as hell). this helped me with my problem. try it out and see whats good :p

ya, i do have a sleeping disorder. I have insomnia and restless leg syndrome. I basically wake up after each of my REM periods... medication only works for a certain amount of time. so unfortunately i have to live with this...

on the other hand, im always hopeful for a miracle hahaha

On a serious note, you have what I would consider a blessing.

Last year, I attempted, what the online community calls, the "Uberman sleep cycle" (essentially polyphasic sleep). I would take 6 20 minute naps spread out in the course of the day/night. With only 2 hours of sleep a day, I was able to stay productive yet keep up with all the activities I did. I maintained the cycle for a period of 1.5 months until getting drunk twice in a row raped me and I fell asleep for more than an hour. Game over. Definitely not for the weak of heart or the ill-disciplined - but not being able to sleep could help you do this, if you wanted to. I like looking at the bright side of everything. LOL

(And yes, the sleep cycle comes with its share of side effects, unbelievably realistic dreams and awkward stories)

My life motto is "I'll have plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead" LOL
