We've started a little team here in Denver, It's kinda hard with not a lot of Punjabi people around and no competitions within 350 miles of us... how do you even start?!?! When do you know if its the right time to start?!?

Start dancin bro. Get you're team name out there. Do a bunch of gigs for free to build your credibility around denver. Then once you become good enough, start asking for money. Once you're that good, apply to some competitions and see what happens.

Just some advice, go on youtube and look at bhangra performances that have been done at a show or wedding,
start off from there, like siddyp said get your name out there then go on from there

university shows + cultural organizations' shows
--> build up skill and then weddings and paid gigs

build up some cash and get into a traditional or modern competition depending on your flavor. although i know its really hard to get into competitions nowadays

Definitely need to just dance, dance, dance. Practice hard, get dedicated members with potential - whether they're Punjabi or not. Dedicated captains, choreographers, members and supporters who have good and realistic intentions for your team and have been familiar with the bhangra world. Also, like Saleem said, choose a style whether it be traditional or modern bhangra.

It's okay if the dancers don't try out with perfect execution of what you're looking for. Heart, passion, and of course a little rhythm are more important than perfection for any team jsut starting out. I danced more modern bhangra first, then after switching teams I was taught how to adjust my style to what they were looking for. :)

Gigs are a great way to start. Weddings, birthdays and cultural shows can get the name out *so* fast, which is great if you're starting out solid. Just make sure you guys are pretty solid otherwise it could have a negative effect... you don't want the word to spread quickly that your team is sloppy or irresponsible, runs late, unprofessional, etc...

This is basically just summing up the things people said, and I added maybe a little more detail haha

Good luck, and the sex tape is up to you, I guess, but I'd advise against it :p

might be hard for you to start in denver since i doubt theres a need for bhangra at parties, i would suggest trying out some competitions if your team can afford that

actually, parties might be their best bet if they're the only team in denver. if you guys perform at culture shows, talent shows, etc. and get your name out there you can charge for performing at parties and from there use the money to compete and from there your name will run through the threads on btf... hahaha
