Hey guys!
Well I have been thinking long and hard about this..
I think I might start my bhangra team maybe next year. I am really very eager to get a great team going over here in the UK but I need really big help.
How do I make someone enjoy bhangra so they enjoy training to be in my bhangra team?
I also need help on how to actually teach them bhangra if they have no experience?
Please help me guys as I want to look professional to them, like I know what I am doing.
Thanks,
Pritpal.

Re: How do you make the Perfect Bhangra Team?

Hire VCU* dancers on annual contracts.

* - Substitute with your favorite team name: SGPD, RPD, Heeray, GS, NJ, etc

PS - Expect to be flamed for such a vague post but I wish you well.

Yes there is. Have them drink special "bhangra water" for rehydration while listening to bhangra. Lace the water with Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (also known as Esctacy ;))

I mean that people appreciate targeted, answerable questions. Asking almost rhetorical questions like "Can I do it?" leave the only obvious answer to be "make it easy and work hard; yes" and very open ended questions like "how to make a perfect team?" is very vague and has no real answer

Pritpal, I like your topic ideas, but I feel you need to be more specific with the questions you pose.

Instead of ... "How do I make the perfect bhangra team?" ... focus in on something in particular and ask specific questions. Examples are below:

Focusing in on Bhangra practises, be detailed and ask: "During practises, how do I get my team more focused on our routine rather than goofing off? What are some of the way your teams help keep everyone on track?"

or

Focusing in on Recruitment, be detailed and ask: "What are some of the best methods to get non-Punjabis interested in bhangra and how do you go about exposing this art form to them?"

Hope that helps,

~ Basim

P.S. - There is no such thing as the *PERFECT* Bhangra team and you can't *MAKE* someone enjoy Bhangra. ;)

OK Basim, I feel as if you knocked a bit of sense into me man.
OK, next time I make a topic I'll think hard about explaining you guys properly about what I am talking about.
Thanks,
Pritpal.

LOL no one took this topic seriously, but to make a successful team, make sure your practices are ran smoothly, and things such formations being made ahead of time or even getting costumes and paggs tied at competitions are decided ahead of time so you don't have to run around looking for people.

Pritpal, your question can be seen analogous to "How do you find happiness?"

There is no set formula to a successful bhangra teams. Some bhangra teams have done well under the dictatorship of one captain and some have done well under democratic contribution of all. Some had done badly under dictatorship and some have done badly under control of all.

If you're lenient with your dancers, they may have more fun at practice. If you're strict with them, they may look better on stage. You need to find your own style of managing the team and calibrate with when something doesnt work. Find what works best for you for your leadership style and find what works best for your specific dancers because they have their own learning styles. There are so many factors involved, experiment and learn.

Good luck.

PS - The source of happiness? Gujju Girls. ;D

yo pritpal
1) you dont have pupils yet----and yooo if u did have dancers dont call em pupils unless they really are younger than you (no1 wants to be treated that way) so to keep em on the team refer to em as ur buddies, ur peeps, w/e
2) u gotta find a few other ppl who really love doing bhangra, like you start from a small group that grows larger, but what helps the most is if ur already like friends w/this person like you live like a minute away, all u do is dance blah blah blah.....(ok this isnt proven)....but its easier to get a team together if you have a few people already (like if u can get 2/3 more friends and just start making routines and stuff---you'll find people eventually)
3) its kinda hard to telll you how to teach some1, you show em the move they learn if theyre motivated enough to learn--- u figure out how they learn best

so, overall i suggest that you get a few people together, and then move from there. I mean hey we had limited people we could get and teach and who had time, but we make it through...but if u can get 4 u cud get 8/12/16/10000
