Hey guys,
I know you've probably all heard about the situation in Japan right now. I'm not going to bog you down with all of the explanations of everything that has happened; you all are smart people who are probably very well informed about it. What I will ask you is to take a few minutes, search your couch for change, empty your pockets, and donate to the relief efforts. Absolutely every penny can help.
This might be the greatest disaster our world has seen since the 2004 Tsunami. It's the largest earthquake in Japan's history and the biggest nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. The money you donate could help prevent thousands of additional casualties due to radiation-related complications in addition to helping the survivors of the quake and tsunami have access to food, clean water, and a warm shelter in the cold, Japanese winter.
This forum was created to further the development of a really great aspect of Punjabi culture: Bhangra. Now, I'm asking all of you to step up and help further another important cause. The Sikh and Punjabi communities has always been very vocal about social justice and the social responsibility we all have to help those in need. Standing up for the defenseless and coming to their aid, regardless of race, creed, gender, etc., is one of the fundamental principles of Sikhism. The people in Japan desperately need all the help possible. It is our job, as human beings with strong ethical principles and human dignity, to offer our assistance to the Japanese people in this absolutely devastating time.
You can do without a few lattes this week, eating out, your daily trip to the soda machine, etc. The situation is absolutely dire and WE have the power to do something about it.
For those of you who decide to click on one of the links below (all reputable organizations, I assure you; I made mine via The Red Cross): I thank you sincerely on behalf of all of the people you're helping. It's people like you that make this world a good place and I'm absolutely sure karma is going to smile your way.
For those of you who turn away: Really? You can't spare a single dollar? I don't buy it. A single dollar can provide a Japanese child with fresh water or someone with a blanket to shield them from the cold. I'm absolutely sure you can manage the sacrifice.
Please repost, tell your friends, your parents, everyone you know.
You can also make a $10 pledge to the Red Cross relief effort by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Message and data rates apply and the donation will be added to your monthly phone bill.
