There are bigger issues in Punjab then women talking on cell phones. How about try to clean up the rampant drug problem that is plaguing the youth. Fools.

+1Sue Sylvester said:What's actually horrible about this is how POORLY worded and MISLEADING the title of the article, "India Banning Women From Talking on the Phone for the First 2 Years of Marriage to Focus on their Husbands", is.
From article, "The Punjab State Commission for Women (PSCW) issued an official advisory last week urging brides “to focus on their domestic life instead of having long conversations on mobile phones”.
That's right. ONE ORGANIZATION from ONE STATE from the entire country of India, issuing an ADVISORY that URGES brides to focus on their significant others than using phones. The original article's title was "Indian brides told to reduce mobile use.", not some exaggerated title that makes the rest of India look like sexist bigots.
And shame on those of you who don't read actual articles, just read titles and want to be outraged for no reason, which in the case of this thread, is pretty much all of you.![]()

The article is clearly poorly written, but when the entire country has a long history of sexism and has very serious issues with the treatment of women the outrage is justified. India has demonstrated itself to be a sexist and bigoted country.Sue Sylvester said:What's actually horrible about this is how POORLY worded and MISLEADING the title of the article, "India Banning Women From Talking on the Phone for the First 2 Years of Marriage to Focus on their Husbands", is.

The FDA recalled certain brands of peanut butter due to possible salmonella contamination. The nerve of them to waste time on such things! There are so much more pressing issues that the FDA should deal with like the ongoing war in the Middle East, the Tsunami in Japan, the increasing child obesity epidemic and whether girls should wear paghs.bballkid2592 said:you righti didn't actually read it...but with the clarification..i guess the legislation isn't really there to force anything on anyone. I mean...although its not what we thought it was...but this honestly isn't necessary. Sure wives should spend more time with their husbands/families and vice versa but India stands #1 as far as lowest divorce rate (1.1 percent) in the entire world. Clearly marriage isn't a huge issue. I mean there are still problems with abusive marriages and stuff..thats important but family life isn't that weak..and ive seen it with my own eyes (going from dense cities like mumbai/delhi to villages in gujrat and down south near chennai).
I think the main thing that these people were "outraged" about was the fact that this one state in India is worrying about this instead of other pressing issues like poverty, raging health problems, lack of enough water for the people... thats why i thought this was ridiculous..the lives of the people are much more important .
hahahaha i love you mr. sylvester (no homo..not that there is anything wrong with it). My b...i think you should teach me how to read sometime...how about next weekend?Sue Sylvester said:The FDA recalled certain brands of peanut butter due to possible salmonella contamination. In a nutshell, an organization whose sole purpose is to cater to the rights of women from one state in India has issued sexist advice to women on what they've found statistically leads to more successful marriages. There is no banning (at least not indicated from the original Yahoo article). I see it akin to a mother telling her daughter to learn how to cook or she won't find a good husband. Is it sexist and bigoted? Yes. But so are scientific publications done here in the US that have found that children perform better in school when the mother is at home. It is not the concern of the PSCW to issue opinions and attempt to help in regards to the poverty, drug and water problems. I think it would be far more ridiculous if the Punjab State Commission for Women came out and said "Drugs are bad... mmokay?", an advisory out of their jurisdiction and statement of purpose.
