Insane idea

Online bhangra competition:

1. Teams have buy in. (or paid viewing = larger pot)
2. Full vardi, any location.
3. 8:30 time limit.
4. BTF votes
5. Either winner takes all or placings for popular vote. (Ideally there will be a large enough distribution of voters to have a mixed preference vote).
6. Stimulate debate where people defend their votes.

Great idea.
But it would have to be at a location(s) that have "referees" to make sure everything is fair as well to keep up the stream.

also in the spirit of rivalry perhaps we can incorporate some kind of challenge system where you can wager something on the side.

But give them a 140 character limit on their posts for debating so they post like 3 or 4 times in the span of 10 minutes.

Good idea. I was also thinking of making most of it completely anonymous, basically no use of past signature moves etc. ideally people will vote on the bhangra if they don't know the team

Great idea, but administration would be a nightmare. But its doable.

That I think the technical aspect would be the biggest hurdle.

So the team that can gather the most friends to vote wins... it wont necessarily be the best team.
There should be a criteria for voter eligibility

Cool idea only if votes are qualified somehow - cant just get all your friends to vote for you, or run some kind of program giving you bunch of ghost votes . Maybe have like 20 virtual judges and only their votes count or something

Love this idea. Lots of teams that I grew up competing against can't commit to competitions because of busy adult schedules. I bet a higher number of teams could commit to compete via live stream from the comfort of their own studios.

Why not have everyone submit videos by a certain date/time, not make them public and have qualified judges check them out and score the performances?

After the scoring is done and collected, make the videos public and leave them up for a few days before announcing the winner.

Yeah, Bollywood Smash had a panel of judges though, voting was not open to the public or anything like that. Maybe like others said already, having a higher number of verified, qualified judges. There could be a viewer's choice vote but then again, that may also fall prey to popularity, spamming posts, ghost votes, etc.
