I find that in general- most phones don't last you longer then a year. No matter how top of the line they are but that's usually because of wear and tear.

I used to own the 3g and I dropped that thing so many times, eventually it just got so messed up I HAD to change it. Or maybe I purposely started to do that just as an excuse to get a new phone.. ::)
Seriously, I've dropped my 3g too many times. It's got more scratches/cracks than flawless spots hahaha. So far I've gotten 3 different SIM card errors from dropping the phone. Now it'll just randomly say I don't have a sim card installed

harjot i love you, but i find everything you listed to be really inaccurate minus the dastar example! what generation do you use? i have a 3GS and it's amazing in all these aspects :D
Love you too brother, no worries everyone has their own view's and opinions on the iPhone, it's all good... Here's how I got to this point...

Keep in mind, this is coming from someone who loved his iPhone, I couldn't live without it... Or so I thought...

I have a 3G... The 3gS wasn't worth the upgrade given what I consider to be minor upgrades with the exception of the extra ram and processor clocking.... Even then, it wasn't worth signing a new contract etc etc...

So... With that said, I would randomly drop calls at the most random times.. It gets annoying fast, especially when you're on a business call... I learned this is highly dependent on the area you live... For example, where I live, I get GREAT service with blazing fast 3G speeds... When I went to DC for Elite 8, 3G was painfully slow, as it is in San Francisco and LA... Yes, this is partly due to the carrier... But, for the past month or so, I ditched my iPhone and went back to my Motorola KRZR... Man, how good it feels to have a phone that functions so well as a ... PHONE!...

No more dropped calls, not one dropped call yet, full signal nearly everywhere I go...

The Krzr will keep beeping every 5 minutes if I missed a call, a text, voicemail etc etc... The iPhone beeps like 3 times, and it's a silent beep, you almost have to be in close proximity to it to hear it... My Krzr? I can hear it anywhere in the house beeping, and I got the option of selecting a custom ringtone...

Which brings me to my next gripe... The iPhone speaker is just quiet as shit... I've owned 4 iPhones and they are all like this, though the 3G is clearly louder than my 2G... Same for the speaker phone... Why even call it a speaker phone? If I'm outside wearing my Dastar in a windy/noisy environment, you can't hear the other person... The Krzr, and other phones I've owned for that matter, have speakers that are loud as shit!

With my Krzr, and previous phones, I can customize almost anything in terms of ringtone... With the iPhone, you can't change your email ring, your voicemail ring, your alarm ring, etc etc.. You pretty much have to use that Apple thinks is a great sound... My Krzr? It busts out Pappi Gill every morning as an alarm, and other various punjabi tunes for texts etc etc...

Have you ever been in a situation where you need to make a super urgent call, and your phone is being a bitch? So you decide to turn it off and then back on... Reminds me of the good ol days when I would boot my PC and do downstairs to get a drink and be back in time for the boot to complete... Yeah, it sucks...

As for the dastar/proximity sensor? I've hung up on people when I didn't really want to... That too, gets annoying...

...

So as you see, some of these are "problems" and some of these are "preferences" ... But, almost ALL of my phones before the iPhone didn't have these issues...

P.S. Have you ever been in another country, and had to reflash your iPhone software, without data/3g/wifi present? Don't try it... Don't ask how I know...

I had the first-gen iPhone and then recently upgraded to the 3G, and living in downtown LA i have to say it BLOWS when it comes to service. Its dropped more calls than Michael J Fox at a telethon, but the only reason I keep it around is because its just a fancy gadget. Apple slowly tacks on these "amazing" features to each new gen of iPhone, but its just not worth the price. You can jailbreak your current iPhone and get video chat, although its not a front-facing camera. I'm 100% positive that Apple already has its features for the 5th gen iphone planned out, and will push that into the market once sales of the 4G start dipping. Other phones make greater strides, I feel like Apple is just trying to milk the customer as much as possible.

apple was smart with this iphone... before they always left out an option that left us iphone owners wanting more. they released this one with all of the features besides flash... go ahead whine about it.. the iphone is still sick. and on top of giving all of the features we wanted, they are pricing it pretty fair. $299 for the 32gb.

Im excited, cant wait. love the iphone.

Steve Jobs is the biggest shyster this side of ANYWHERE!! What's the difference btwn Jobs n a prostitute? A prostitute takes ur money n den takes it up d A**. Jobs takes ur money n den makes U take it up the a**! I got some insider articles on Apple n d whole iPhone scam that'll make u sick. No wait. Apple users are loyal no matter what. Dropped calls? That's intentional. Saves battery. lot's of conspiracy bs. but it's all true. u want the red pill or the blue pill? the dudes a freakin mastermind dictator n is manipulatin this sh*t as hard as he can covertly. ya at&t's in on it too.. he is not counter culture like he thought he was so long ago. he is much worse than what he rebelled against. Sweatshop lovin jerk... i can't wait to chuck my iPhone out in2 the sea like a skiping stone! oh wait! I can get FAT cash for it in Europe n elsewhere cuz their iPhones r not subsidized like ours n they cost up to $800!! at&t subsidizes ur iPhone n strangles u with fees n contracts to make it worth their while. that's why they raised termination fees. I have to keep a landline in my home cuz i only get a signal if i stand behind my front door, n i live n d heart of silicon valley not some remote desert! n pages loading r slower than dial-up usually when it's urgent or when i only have a quick second to check on things... i heard android is d way to go... i'ma check it out. it's worth paying the termination fee to get outta this nightmare... i'm on my iPhone right now n hella tired of writin'...mayb it's not so bad for u all but i got 3 ppl in my fam i'm payin for n $220 a freakin month plus landline for this lame service that's kkkkrazzzyyy...im hatin it...
