so i was trying to jailbreak my ipod 4th gen with redsnow but redsnow would download in a ".zip" file and i need it to download in a ".ipsw" file

redsnow should be compatible with the .ipsw you downloaded. The process is a lil complex...depending on your current iOS version of ipod...google the jailbreak method...you will definitely find a tustorial. I recently jailbroke iOS 4.3.3 with redsnow. Her eis the link to do the same (only for iOS 4.3.3)

thanks, my redsnow is working but when i click "browse" the firmware doesn't show up. also the firmware i have is in a ".zip" file and i dont know how to make it into a ".ipsw" file.

can u help me on that?

p.s. can redsnow work on windows cuz thats what i have

after you download redsnow you have to then download an ipsw file for your specific firmware (whatever firmware is currently running on ur ipod). The link below is where u can download your ipsw:

Then upzip redsnow zip folder and open up the "redsn0w.exe" file. Just follow the directions then, and btw when it asks you for the ipsw file, obviously just browse for wherever you saved the ipsw file you downloaded and continue. You can use the following youtube link for reference on how to use the redsn0w.exe

Then unzip it, you will get .ipsw. Remember to download the firmware you already have on your ipod otherwise redsnow will not recognize it. The most complex process is to put the ipod to DFU mode...u need to press specific buttons for a specific time in a specific hierarchy, do not worry redsnow will guide you through it.

how do you unzip it?
