Jawani Comes to an End

Hello fellow bhangra lovers, for those of you who don't know, this Sunday Jawani competed in our last competition ever. We had humble beginning in 2004 so after a 10 year run we decided it was time to wrap it up. In that time frame, we had many highs and lows but nothing compares to young girls looking at me with glowing eyes to tell me they used us a role models when putting their own teams together.

To the bhangra world and everyone who supported us, I thank you immensely. Many strong, lifelong friendships have been made. To those who didn't support us and even said such things as "girls should stick to giddha" or "Jawani isn't traditional" we thank you too, because you pushed us to endeavor to include more in our bhangra that we normally may not have.

I also want to thank each and every girl who has ever danced on Jawani at any time. I don't always keep in touch but from the bottom of my heart I thank you. No matter how long or short your time has been on Jawani you contributed, in some way, not only to the development of the team but the development of myself as a person.

Best of luck to everyone reading this, let's keep the culture alive and promote our art form. For the very last time, GO JAWANI GO!

Much love,
Bharathi c/o Jawani Bhangra

Still remember Jawani at Bruin 09, one of my favourite performances to look back at.

Thanks for the memories, best of luck in the future to all the girls.

Sad to hear about such an established team hanging up the vardiyan (especially since there a lack of all female squads), but alas all good things must come to an end.

Let's just hope they inspired some of new generation to take over where these talented ladies left off. Thank you for the amazing performances & for the diversity you guys brought to the circuit.

AHHH!

Bharathi, you guys brought so much to the circuit and I'll always remember that purple and yellow segment you guys had at Bruin a few years ago! Through all the ups and downs, you and your team always brought a very passionate and innovative set every time you guys competed. Very happy for you and your team and the great accomplishment you all achieved. Wish you all nothing but the best in the future and thank you for priceless moments and innovation your team provided the circuit with.

BHARATHIIII

Independent teams without belonging to an academy have a very hard time sustaining themselves. On average an independent team lasts 3-5 years. The fact that you last 10yrs and competed every single year is a great accomplishment. I remember the year you girls won Idols one of my favorite performances! I am glad that I gained a great friend/older sister out of our moments together in the circuit. You will be missed!!! <3
