Congratulations on an amazing performance and a great run, JJ. You guys essentially performed once a year, but memorable performances nonetheless. You guys, as dancers, had phenomenal presence on stage and most of your dancers were very polished/precise with their execution. Formations were good, but they were much more creative in the past (at VPD 2011, Elite 2012). The daang break concept was cool (I think a team back in 2004 also did it), but the set-up and putting it back too long and it dragged it out. I think the ending could have been a bit more, but I think what prevented you from placing higher was the relative simplicity of the set. You guys had amazing execution, but from what I heard about CMU, they were very clean with an impressive, more difficult set.
As a formation-guy, I normally watch your sets for the formations, but what stood out more in this set was the choreography. It was very well choreographed to steps, though simple, not only hit hard but more importantly, could be cleaned and could make the performance look cleaner. For example, doing steps that go from standing straight to bending over (absolute steps that draw straight lines) shows a sharp contrast and once easily cleaned, makes the team looks even cleaner. Was definitely impressed.
Also, a quick thought about these vardii.. Aesthetically, I don't think the yellow and pink should have come back. From your 16 man set, I would have brought back the orange and the cyan blue. While it's important to have a color balance on stage, I think it's more important that colors have the same weight in appeal. The yellow and the pink (to a degree) are too close to the base color of beige and they stand out more.
