Judging at B.C's best

O.K so first off before anyone starts to jump to any conclusions I am not posting this to bash on anyone or any competition. However I am posting this in defense(if that is the right word to use) of the teams that should have placed higher or didn't place at all at B.C's best. I was sitting close to the top of the audience so i could see pretty much every stunt, move nakhra, mess very clearly. However another thing that i could see was the judges reactions to each team. So to get started I would like to say that all the teams did very well and congrats to the 7 teams advancing to the best of the best. However no offense to any team but some should have placed higher than others and i was very confused by the judging because i am very close with most of the teams and when i went backstage to talk to them they all had their scoring binders and honestly it was very inconsistent. For ex. (I will not say any team name for the sake of privacy) some teams had marks taken off for their stunts not being executed properly when there are definitely 3 or 4 teams that also had stunt difficulties that did not get the same mark. Also it was said the there were lachay that weren't tied properly. The problem with that is that girls teams do not wear lachay so how can they compete and be marked at the same level when they don't even wear the same outfit. Another thing is the props and how some teams threw them far to keep them off stage and some of those teams had this marked down while other teams that threw their props just as far did not have this marked down. Now when it comes down to execution and pulling off the right moves there is always will be mess ups on teams and they will get marks docked. However what i don't understand is that when teams had small mishaps like not keeping their lines straight they were beat by teams that had people slip on lachay and again it comes to the same point that if that person slipped on his lacha shouldn't he also be docked marks for a bad lacha. I also heard that some teams were docked marks for doing stunts the unorthodox way which makes no sense because not all of the stunts will be done that same way and teams were docked marks for doing stunts at the end of their routine which is absurd because there shouldn't be a proper time to have a stunt. All in all this was a good competition held down by bhangra idols committee. However a few friendly criticisms i would like to give is that hopefully for best of the best the judging is more consistent and the mark deductions are followed accordingly for each team for the same type of mistake that they commit. In the packages that were sent out at the beginning ( correct me if i am wrong) it said the hardest judged championship and i believe that it was judged hard for some teams and not for others. P.S --- On a side note to Saleem this was not meant to harm anyone or any comity just to express what i thought of the competition as a neutral fan watching it and talking to the teams.

bro, judges can't watch the entire stage the entire time, so there will always be inconsistencies. The sum of all of their observations hopefully averages to an accurate, or atleast precise, score.

There were 12 judges, and hella different camera angle positions, so they coulda took notes and compared. ???

i guess with so many different judges and so many different judging styles theres bound to be inconsistencies

The fact that there are 12 judges -each assigned to mark a specific category, is what reduces inconsistencies. I think the more judges, the better! It means there's less chance of something being overlooked.

Welcome to Bhangra Teams Forum

Please answer the following the questions:

1. If you were sitting close to the top of the audience, then where were the judges sitting?
2. Did you see every reaction of every judge for each performance?
3. If you were sitting in the audience, how did you get access to backstage?
4. You mentioned "they all had scoring binders and
honestly it was very inconsistent", so you looked at all of the categories in all of the team binders to make comparisons to base an opinion on inconsistencies, while having unauthorized access backstage?

1. They were sitting up in the balcony area where you could see their faces and who they were. Half were sitting on one side and the other half on the other side.
2. I obviously did not see every reaction to the judges because i went to watch the competition and not the judges however being that close to them it's hard to resist the temptation to look over my shoulder every once in a while.
3. to get backstage i got off my seat walked down the theater and ended up backstage
4. I looked at as many scoring binders as possible and since each judge was assigned a category its very easy to remember who was assigned what category and then all i did was go to the teams and just look at those categories that i mentioned earlier.

To the Bhangra Idols Committee:

i would just also like to say that the M.C shouldn't say which team he thinks is going to place and how well they did. M.C shouldn't care how any team did he/she should be neutral. Thanks

I try not to post this type of stuff on btf anymore but I think I have to say this...This whole discussion about teams placings being off for bc's best makes no sense. This is the first time I brought my team to a competition held by the bhangra idols committee as captain but I was happy to hear every team at the judges meeting state that they respect this competition because placings are legit. Why change your mind now? And these teams have competed at idols in the past, so you should know what to expect. After the competition we were given a binder that says exactly (I mean exact to the time written of where what happened) of why we recieved the points that we did. Each judge has written an explanation. There are videos accompanying the sheets, which you can watch from each angle to better understand what a judge has written about you. I have never seen such detailed score sheets and ones that make sense. I am more used to seeing score sheets that say we didn't have dhamaal or jhummer when we actually had specific segments with those in it. Moreover, we were told the judges beforehand and had the opportunity to talk to them, so that shouldn't be a problem. I don't think anyone was allowed to go through other people's binders and nobody asked to see ours or the teams in our room, so to whoever claims they saw others' :-\ something wierd going on there. There are so many judges that it eliminates the chances of a judge screwing a team over. I think BC has a lot of talent and traditional bhangra is really BC's thing but every competition has different rules and regulations, which is why there is a 65 page registration package that explains what is expected at this competition. It is the hardest judged competition for a reason and you have to work hard as always but in accordance with the expectations of the competition.

First off i have kept my name as this to protect my own self privacy and secondly i did not say that i read every teams score sheet binder. So as far as NSM goes i congratulate you guys for your placing but nothing was intended towards you guys and that makes me wonder why the 1st or 3rd or any other placing team did not respond the way you did  . Just wondering

If you want everyone to take you seriously, why don't you be a stand up individual and present your real identity rather then sitting back and calling out the organization and the teams that competed.

as a committee...you shouldnt worry about ONE person this much that you're consistently replying on a thread. shouldnt you have more stuff to be worried about? competitions? any other business? BTF and one persons opinion on how placings ended up and judging was condoned should NOT matter.

does obama give a fuck if i flush my toilet? no. should Bhangra Idols Admin give a fuck if someone disagrees with the placings? no.

your honor, please also note that I ate his team, laddoo pakora, last night and they all tasted damn good. Based upon this, I feel that Mr. Moocha has some legitimacy to his case. however, for further investigation, we should call Farlo Tuttey from the team Butter Chicken to the stand. Thank you.

to be honest with mr. moocha. the bhangra idols comitee is one of the finest ! no questions asked. our team placed 4rth and we have no complaints about the judging. and i really think you should get your facts straight because i also asked some teams and compared binders with other teams and what i saw was that it was very fair and all questions we had about the placing were answered on the spot. people are obv going to alittle angry with the judging because who likes to lose? but after alittle while if u talked to the teams they were very happy with the results and cannot wait for the next show.
