That will never happen again, and if it does, it won't mean as much as it did when the Bulls reached that milestone. Besides, its wayyyy too early in the season to determine that.

Why wont it mean as much? With the defensive rule changes in 2002 it totally changed the way teams were allowed to play defense, you could argue it is way more competitive.

Only thing that can stop them is injuries. The west is weaker so far this year so that helps and also the fact that they are an excellent road team bodes well for them. Kobe does not have to score like he has had to in previous years since Gasol came over and took the load off and Bynum patrolling the paint made MVP candidate Bosh look pedestrian last night. The defense has also improved enough that they can get stops when they need them like in the Dallas game. I don't think we can seriously start thinking about it though until they get to say 33-3 or something like that. Boston might win 70 games too so its imperative for them to win as many as they can if they want homecourt :p

The Warriors play them 4 times this year... You can pencil in 4 losses right there...

u can make the argument that its not the same today but i dnt agree w/ it.

we have superstars today that can take ove anyyy game..(wade, stoudemire, kobe, lebron, etc...)

i think we have more superstars today and theyre more dispersed throughout the league

the league is tougher now

HAHAHAHA, the NBA is tougher now? I would love to see any of the above mentioned players last during the NBA of the early-mid 90's, when you saw team basketball in its purest form; the way it should be played. That was when the league was full of passion and grit. Its when you had rivalries like the bulls/knicks, blazers/lakers, celtics/pacers, etc. It was A LOT more competitive then and entertaining. What rivalries do you see now? The league is full of high-paid, ball-hogging, gangster-ass, wimps who whine that they don't get paid enough. Of course theres more "superstars" now. Everybody is playing for themselves. Theres no team anymore except for maybe the Spurs, pistons, celtics. I used to be a lakers fan, but screw the NBA, its all about college ball, where you see a bunch of talent, passion, and pride for your school. THe NBA is tougher now? I think not........and THIS is why if the lakers reached a 72-10 record it wouldn't mean crap.

Meistro is right, todays nba players are whiners, who look for fame, and the play the game for their contracts. There was an interesting discussion a little while ago with a toronto raptor and our coach sam mitchell. You guys probably remember sam mitchell, played on the timberwolves with garnett, one of those old, harm working, grit type of players. One of our palyeyrs Joey Graham is in his last year, "contract year" with the raptors, and has stepped up his game from going to a COMPLETE bum, to a useable player. Mitchell, who hates the media, basically gave him shit to the media and the players who do that stuff. He said back in the day, players viewed contracts as something as a luxury. That they would work their ass off in every practice, every game, every play for a contract, but onwadays NBA execs could care less about those guys.

Look at Iverson. A 33 year old, who chooses to skip practice, and insult all those who do practice. These days the NBA players are whinners, and idiots. You have idiots like Kobe, Shaq and Lebron, playing where they want to play, and hijacking the whole league for that bullshit, and the owners willing to bend over to take whatever their players want to do.

Having said that, the skill level I think may be better in todays game. The players are faster, stronger, and the game is quicker, but thats the evolution of all sports. There is NO WAY the lakers go 72-10, people need to calm down. There has been so much shifting in the league, and when the league settles down, and players become more comfortable in their systems, the lakers will start to loose.

They are a good team though, a really good team. Yesterday they fornicated with the raptors ego, and it was a hard thing to watch. They are good. Well coached.

I agree with Meistro for the most part, the NBA now is boring as balls... The NFL, MLB, College Football and College basketball are far superior to the NBA in excitement... During the Jordan era, basketball was fun to watch...

After watching the Lake Show play 15 games, I think they can break the 72-10 record- but then again i'm a little biased. We haven't seen them play against Boston/Cleveland/San Antonio, so it's hard to say what they'll do against more physical teams. They have held some teams below 100, but I liken them to CHOKlahoma in college FB- they score a ton, but give up a good amount too. The past few games, we have giving up a high number of points. Against the elite teams, that may be something we can't recover from. As far as the old nba being more fun, i agree to an extent. THey had no hand checking or zone back then, so it was harder to score and players like Jordan/Bird/Magic flourished. This can easily segue into the Jordan vs Kobe argument, but we'll save that for another time.

I dont think college BB is even basketball half the time, they jack up so many shots (esp trey bombs) its hilarious. Im surprised coaches don't rip their hair out everytime. There is definitely more passion and urgency at the college level (esp football) and it makes for some fan-fu$*ing-tastic games. I hate contract years because thats when douchebags like Vince Carter decide they should play more and whine less.

I hate how 2008 has become the Year of Lebron already, even though its 2 years away. I hate how people keep letting Shaq talk and papers actually publish it. I wasn't a fan of Kobe making his demands so public, but I know he shared our frustrations of not having a competitive squad.

I don't know if you've played organized basketball in school, but college b-ball is as pure as it gets. Ever watched DUKE? UNC? College Basketball is to Traditional Bhangra as the NBA is to modern bhangra. Nuff said.

yes sir i played for my HS team, maybe im spoiled by the strategies used in the NBA to make it more of a tactical game. they run plenty of plays in college, but its more run-n-gun than half court sets. Thats why I think phoenix was so entertaining to watch under D'Antoni, cuz it was fast paced.

Agreed. The NBA is all about carrying the ball, travelling, continuation lasting forever, it's entertaining but it's terrible basketball.

If you break down basketball to its fundamentals.. like Meistro said, college is where it's at.

And I doubt the lakers are going to break 72-10. They've gone 16-1 before and then melted down later on in the season. Bynum is too raw, Odom is a lost cause, and Kobe is going to eventually get tired. They'll probably win 65 or so. I can see them taking the title this year though, the Playoffs are going to be great to watch.

That Laker team was same in name only, that was many years ago. How is Bynum raw? He has developed into a defensive force. Odom I agree is unpredictable. He is not being asked to do much other than come off the bench and put up solid minutes which he has been doing so far but who knows how long that lasts.

Kobe might get tired since he has not had a long break because of the Olympics but the Laker bench can blow out teams means he is sitting more 4th quarters and getting more rest.

I agree with you they will win around 65 or so, but that is mostly because of random injuries and other teams playing well against them.

hmmm...I used to be a die hard Lakers fan back in the day, but it just hasnt been the same since Shaq got traded to Miami, and the whole team was rebuilt!!! Odom has pretty much been a dissapointment, and kobe carries the team. 72 or not, the Lakers are still not gonna win the championship this year, Celtics is far superior in every way!!!
