This article is a better read.

I think this can sum it up well

Both are lockdown defenders, fantastic passers, capable of scoring or facilitating and excellent leaders of their teams. The primary differences lie in each player's individual offensive repertoires, and the key here is the versatility, polish, and completeness of each player's game.

LeBron James is a player with one primary, ultradeveloped offensive skill: his ability to get to the hoop for layups and dunks. At the same time, there are several areas that he has yet to develop. He has improved his 3-point and free throw shooting this year, but even so, both are average at best. He has no midrange jumper, he doesn't use screens effectively, and his post game is suspect. His athleticism and quickness are his primary tools, and his footwork at this point is still fairly rudimentary -- which, in part, explains why he's not better in the post. (Imagine what a player of his size, strength, and athleticism could do in the post with Kobe's footwork!)

Kobe Bryant doesn't have a single dominant skill that far outweighs all others, like LeBron does. Instead, he has the most complete, versatile, and polished skill set in the NBA. Pull-up jumper, leaner, runner, floater, fadeaway, fallaway, midrange, long-range, close-range, pump fake, jab step, up-and-under, dunk, layup, left hand, right hand, face-up, post-up, driving, elevating, strength, savvy, power, finesse, balance, body control, footwork. Bryant can do it all. His footwork, in particular, is unparalleled, and because of it, he is extremely effective in the post, making easy work of smaller players and even taking advantage of larger players without the fundamental skill set to compete with his own.

Simply put, the difference between the two boils down to unprecedented raw athleticism versus unequaled, finely honed skill.
Right now you take Lebron for sure because he is in his peak but comparing him to Kobe's peak it would be a toss up to be honest. I know Hollinger on ESPN likes to use his PER system but the system is not perfect and does not take into account difficulty of shots, flow of the game, possessions, and a whole lot of other things.

If you love basketball you should appreciate both.

I do. Though I have to say, in the mind of every gm, they would take lebron over kobe if given the chance(though they wouldnt quibble with either). Its raw athleticism that gms covet(potential) rather than fine skill. Its why people like manute bol, michael olowakandi, and others go first.

You do make a point. Whenever the games come on and you see them in the zone. Just pop some pop-corn and relax

I agree. I remember when I saw Lebron in person when he was in high school. His body and athleticism were amazing, I couldn't believe the guy was 18. For the first few years we all saw him get by on his amazing athleticism alone but the past two his game has improved a lot which we gotta give him credit for. Playing with Kobe in the Summer Olympics and seeing how intense he was and dedicated to winning totally rubbed off on him and made him an even better player this year. If he puts in the same kind of work year in and year out you gotta wonder how high he can go.

I really hope Kobe and Lebron go at it in the finals because they will bring out the best in each other. Kobe and Carmelo did last night. Bird and Magic did in the 80s, Wilt and Russel did in the 60s. I wonder often if Kobe was born maybe 6 years earlier and was able to compete against Jordan when he was in his prime what it would have been like. You gotta think MJ would have loved the challenge and brought his game to new heights if he would have had his own real rival. As good as the Clyde Drexlers of the world were they were not on the same level as Jordan and I always got the feeling he was bored, why else would he go play baseball? (Unless he was forced out because of his gambling thing, but thats a conspiracy theory for another day).

I hope Lebron doesnt get bored on day and make that football commercial reality :p

I feel this to be a MAGICal series, and it'll be a full 7 games. About the bench thing for ya cavs, i could say the same about lamar's game as well, he needs to step up on his scoring for the lakers, as well as sasha. lakers get those two rolling, then the teams like a bullet-train impossble to slow down.

There is no saving the cavs hahaha. If Kobe has an off night, they can still win. The cavs will not. They couldn't win with Lebron's great performance, too bad hahah.

LBJ had a great game, but almost got too hot with his mid range jumper to the point where the rest of the team was just ball-watching...they got used to it, and when it came to the end of the game...everyone was still just standing around...they can't afford to do that if they want to win...cavs during the season have had excellent ball movement...they will learn from this, and come out blazing tomorrow. For all you Kobe lovers, Kobe was having the same exact problem with the Lakers. It is just a matter of experience...I expect LBJ to get his teammates goin as early as possible (namely, Mo Williams and Z). One good thing is that they got Dwight Howard in foul trouble. Lebron should be able to draw fouls on Dwight Howard regularly when he takes it in to the basket.

Cavs, Cavs, Cavs. (As opposed to LBJ, LBJ, LBJ...thats not gonna do it..haha)
