List of competitions during late winter/spring?

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is enjoying their break. We are trying to apply for competitions during late winter/ spring. What competitions (collegiate and independent both) are happening this semester with the registration deadlines still available? The ones that I can think of are bhangra blowout, warrior bhangra, Pao bhangra (exhibition).

thanks

I feel like this question gets asked like once every two months (and it's a valid one).

Would it be possible to create a BTF calendar? Could include the bhangra comps happening and maybe even other events like the bigger melas or bhangra-related events.

to be fair, it's not updated. I've tried many times to get help on it but no dice, and I just don't ahve the time anymore

Would it be feasible to create a public calendar that people can add competitions to?
Then anyone can add them, so it's up to everyone here to keep it updated.

Maybe just a Google calendar or something?

As Swi mentioned, the CTL hasn't been updated, which is why 2014 competitions and events aren't there. Will it update automatically at midnight tonight or does it have to be updated manually?

Edit: yep, it has to be done manually.

Can anyone add competition dates and info to the CTL? Then someone involved with each competition can just add their competition (organizers, people who will be competing, etc.), and maybe have it get approved by a moderator so people don't add duplicates or random stuff.

This is a good point that everyone brought up. Its hard to keep track of so many competitions and dates/application due dates, it is important to keep the CTL updated.

I meant that users on BTF who are going to competitions or organizing competitions should have permissions to edit/add info to CTL, and then moderators can approve or something.

Can any current users already modify stuff in CTL or is it limited to certain members? I was just wondering.

I'm pretty sure anyone can edit the CTL. There aren't any competitions under the "Upcoming Competitions" section because the CTL hasn't been updated to allow for events in 2014. Anyone can submit a new entry to update the "Recent Results" section. The CTL also needs to be updated (haha sorry mods/admins) to allow for ties because there is currently only one drop down menu per placing. I think it'd be easier to have a text/string field so users can write in team names manually instead of selecting them from a drop down menu (which is probably a little more work for the mods who have to keep the drop down menu selection updated).

Daman that doesn't work though to keep track of teams as time goes on as same team could be spelled differently, or someone might use an acronym instead. Drop down menu ensures the input is the correct value in the database. I meant to go back and give possibility for a tie but it makes the system messy and I never found time.

At some point teams and competitions have to step up and own their own image and information. It's classic chicken and egg issue with content value vs effort so I understand the CTL isn't big enough or useful enough to garner attention, but that's what's keeping it from being useful and filled with info.

I think shreepals idea for a google doc is a much better alternative, does someone want to set it up? I can help format and polish it and we'll sticky a thread with the link...we can move the CTL to more of an archive of results rather than a future list of comps.

Doc or calendar?

Calendar would be nice for posting deadlines and stuff, because teams can just add it to their calendars.

Doc would be easier to find all info I guess, but you can easily list events for a calendar and look through those, so a calendar might be better. Just a suggestion.

I think a combo of both would work the best. Have a group of people in charge of it. Making sure its up to date and such.
Have a special thread for people to post information about shows/comps that arent posted here by the organizers.

A calender might be better for organizing events, though I think a spreadsheet would suffice as well. There's a lot of information in the CTL, including a record of team and competition histories, for which I think a doc/spreadsheet would be most appropriate. I'm not sure how much information we would be transferring. Swi and I are figuring out some details and formatting and will post an update soon.
