mad research needs to be done before throwing a comp ... id say before posting anything or possibly saying theres going to be a comp i would have every little thing written down on paper. Me and a Team mate were thinking of throwing a comp and trust me when i say we wrote down so much and still there was more ... and that was only our two minds working together!

Mr. Raj please do not be afraid to ask for help from the bhangra community.. it will make your life go much smoother and you will get done what every team will want you to get done.

best of luck to you bro!

I very much agree with what everyone else has inputted. I think the registration packet should be made open to the public as teams would be able to get a feel for this competition. Also along that note, majority of bhangra competitions have a website in which provides further detail of what the competition is like. So raj I wish you the best of luck with this comp, but take into consideration of what the other members of btf have posted.

Thank You for the input. I am pretty much up to date with the Desi scene in Houston. And I never knew there was a "first bhangra competition" in Houston. But I will continue to get advice and possible feedback from anyone whom would like it to give it. Private messages or emails would work out best. Thank you.

Post#2 to give further advice for your TX competition -

Lastly, I really hope you stay FAR AWAY from associating your competition with the following people:

Rupinder Sandhu (who did not give teams their prize money after the "Texas Showdown" competition in 2009)

Anil Prasad (who last had intentions of throwing a competition in Houston after his "Bhangra Blizzard" failure in 2009/2010; an interesting & entertaining read for you here: http://bhangrateamsforum.com/discuss/main-bhangra-discussion/bhangra-blizzard-2010-team-announcements-finalized-lineup-122409/)

Actually, the last I heard, this dynamic duo wanted to team up to throw a competition in TX. LOL!

Wish I could help you further Raj - I was working in Houston for a few years and even helped to establish/dance with a few teams there. I would have loved to meet up and sit in on your competition organization meetings to provide input...unfortunately, my career has carried me away from the city.

Best of luck and don't hesitate to reach out if I can provide further assistance!

You may wanna throw Armaan in that list. No one's heard from him since he threw MLIB in March.

Thanks once again for your prompt followup.

As Harjap pointed out, Bayou Bhangra was the first Houston based competition: http://www.punjabonline.com/servlet/entertain.competition?Action=DisplayCompetition&Param=21

It took place only once in September of 2004.

The Houston Vaisakhi mela has been going on for even longer, but that's not technically a "national competition." If they do have a competitions (some years they offer a few hundred bucks to the top 3 teams), it's mainly to help promote Bhangra in Houston (or Texas at least).

Anyway, look forward to the Lone Star Bhangra competition.

My post was just in reference to people who could be affiliated with TX based competitions, hence I was offering advice on who to avoid getting involved with - I wasn't trying to call out every single individual who has wronged someone else from the Bhangra community.

Point taken though,

~ Basim :)

Yeah, we are our own committee wanting to have this competition and aren't associated with another group. I met up with guys whom held "Bayou Bhangra" and they jus happened to be our local DJ's. In our meeting I asked them to be our DJ's for the competition, which they agreed, we are excited about them being at the competition. And I really do appreciate the feedback everyone, I would like to make Lone Star Bhangra as one of the top competitions in nation hopefully. Thanks again everyone. Will post up the registration packet soon.
