13. Videos must be no more than 2 minutes long. Videos must be in JPEG or AVI format.

since when did video files become JPEG?

Prize money sounds pretty sketchy for a first comp but ok. "Teams must be male, female or co-ed" <--Are there any other options? The trimmed beard thing Oo wtf. Also just a thought wouldn't it be easier to keep track of things with an e-mail js.

ummm
ya this is kinda ridiculous. everyone remember to iron your vardiyan after you put em on, right before you go up on stage. will there be an inspection of beards and make up?
6. During the performance teams must be presentable (this may lead to point deductions):
 Gents facial hair MUST be trimmed and neat during the performance.
 Ladies make-up must applied to an extent.
 All uniforms must be pressed and ironed before taking the stage.
 Jewelry, if worn, must be polished."
down with dhari-scrimination!!!

sooo $300 registration fee and
4. Teams whom are not selected will not be refunded the registration fee.
Note: Trophies, along with the cash prizes, will be mailed out to the winning teams after the competition.
also an exhibition team will be selected from the applicants to perform as the opening act?
2. An odd number team will be chosen to perform during the opening ceremony on the day of the competition and will be given the same treatment as the teams whom are competing.
so they get to perform but not compete and don't get registration refunded?
5. The odd team selected will not refunded the fees, as they will be concerned part of the competition.

I just skimmed over the registration.

1) Prize packages seem absolutely ridiculous for a first year comp. Either you're banking on 60+ teams applying and not handing them back registration money to cover these prizes, or Donald Trump is funding your competition.

2) $300 non-refundable registration fee? Plus the exhibition act "doesn't find out they're exhibition" until later? Are you crazy?!?! Personally I think this is completely and utterly unreasonable. You cannot have it both wasy. Either a $300 refundable registration fee, or a cheap ($75 for example) non-refundable one.

3) While most of your "Performance Rules" are standard-this would not be the place to put them. They should go on the rubric, and be up for judges' comments-not the committee's!! That is not your job!!! Your job is to put on a show. It is NOT your job is not to put rules on what dancers on a team should like like while performing (make-up must be applied, dharis must be trimmed, yada yada).

I think the committee fails to realize that this isn't the Lone Star Bhangra Beauty Pageant. This is a bhangra competition. I honestly wonder if the committee is putting on the show to put on a "pretty little show."

HAHA wow. The beard regulation is just absurd and discriminating. Also, I would suggest to edit the application next time before sending it with various grammatical errors. Just a side note. Hope the comp is a success.

As others have pointed out, there are a lot of questionable things in this registration packet. For example:

1) How do you FORCE facial hair to be "trimmed and neat?"

2) Obviously the females will be applying makeup "to an extent" before going on stage. Not sure why you need to include that in the REGISTRATION packet?

3) Obviously the dancers are going to have their uniforms "pressed and ironed" before going on stage. Why would a team wear wrinkled outfits during a COMPETITION that they had to PAY to be a part of? Again, I question why this needs to be included in the REGISTRATION packet.

4) How do you control if jewelry worn by the dancers was "polished" before they go on stage?

The type of information mentioned in these four points should not be in a registration packet. See point#3 in Joe (campy614)'s post for more insight.

Your registraction packet also contains a lot of grammatical errors - hence, you're not going to be taken seriously. You should have probably asked a few people to review it before you put it up here.

Overall, it seems very unprofessional and definitely seems that you did not do your homework (like I had mentioned to you here: http://bhangrateamsforum.com/discuss/main-bhangra-discussion/lone-star-bhangra-coming-soon!-20398/msg205542/#msg205542)

For a first year competition, how did the amount of prize money come up? Is it coming from sponsors, own pocket, relying on reg. fees? When VIBC had a competition, we gave the same amount as you are claiming BUT this was with MAJOR sponsorship deals ie. Major national banks, large media corporations and medium to large local & national businesses and also this developed from being on the competition circuit for a few years.

Please be transparent with where this money is coming from and how you are able to have such a large prize pool. It seems like yourself and the committee you have for this competition has not been involved in other competitions before however I'm just assuming here but this is your opportunity to prove us wrong.

As said before, organizing and running a competition takes LOTS of work and LOTS of money. There is so much involved and I'm skeptical if you took all of this into consideration.

I've sent an email to the committee detailing issues I see with their operation and approach. Hopefully I get a positive response back and we can sort it out. If they respond and discuss with me I'll let you know if I think the competition is worth the investment.

I think it's a better approach to interact 1-on-1 with new organizers on issues so that they don't have to constantly feel defensive or apologetic. This also ensure we prevent issues rather than just complain later and hope they get fixed.

Sorry to be harsh and lacking in tact but:

Sorry sardars: beards must be trimmed. Ignore what you read on HuffPo about Balpreet Kaur, she's under the rules too. Oh we'll mail you the $5000 check later. And we have no trophies, those will surely be mailed out in the future, too. Non-refundable registration, please flush $300 down your toilet and I will receive it.

This will go as it does every time: organizer will apologize, reissue a new reg packet, someone will vouch that "this guy is legit dont worry!", some teams will still apply, competition will occur, teams will not get paid, (personal rant: judges will not get reimbursed), new thread on BTF appears.

Who is this M3 Industries? As far as I've seen, there is nothing to be found about this company anywhere. Along with your fb page, no one is on it. If you're trying to host a competition, at least make it credible. This just seems like a hoax to me.
