To place heroism on one individual for monumental change is often times un-merited or doesnt encompass the work done by many individuals who worked tirelessly and with no reward.
So true. People love attaching themselves to an ideal, be it Ahimsa and Gandhism or Social Revolution of Marxists like Bhagat Singh, Gadar Party, Lala Hardayal, etc.
This idolization on both ends of the extreme prevent true history from being realized. Alas, people will adhere to icons like Gandhi when they wish to usher in Hindu Nationalism and people will misrepresent the life of Bhagat Singh to create Sikh nationalism.
Btw, to the guy who said something along the lines that implied "Sikhs always defended India and never got shit back." I think you should research the military history of India. You will be surprised by the role Marathis, Gurkhas, Rajputs and other ethnic groups had in the defense of Indian principalities. You will also be surprised if you will see the amount of enlistment by Sikhs (and other Punjabis) in the British Indian Army and the East India Company army. One whole side of my family is Moyal Brahmins (same caste as Bhai Mati Das, etc.) and they have been a marital caste for centuries. My Grand Uncle was a POW in WWII Japanese camp under British Army and my Uncle fought in all three wars against Pakistan.
True history is rarely one-sided. There is so much blurriness and that not-so-fine line between whos good and whos bad.
Anyway, if Jabar wants to research the truth on Gandhi, I encourage you, bro. But don't try to be controversial for controversy's sake. Seek the Truth and the whole Truth (ie don't just pin yourself on Gandhi's evils by stating "I don't care about the good things he's done." That makes you biases and uneducated.)
