All these points that you make can be applied to the other Canadian markets, or any market in the NHL. Now, Id just like to reply to a couple of your comments ...
Firstly, yes, GM Place has been sold out for ages, and half of the arena is actually filled with Canucks jerseys', shirts', and other items. Only jacks rock the Ed Hardy, and Armani to the Canucks games.

Secondly, if you actually watched the retiring of Trevor Linden, they gave him a standing ovation for a long time, to the point where John Shorthouse has to try to speak over them. Even when he was speaking, they were cheering.

Thirdly, one third of the arena is usually empty when the outcome of the game is evident --- ie. if canucks are losing BIG time. Usually, many of the fans are there till the 3 stars are announced.

Next, there been been no case like the one you brought up of Saku Koviu in Vancouver? The closest thing that I could think of was either when Naslund broke his leg and came back for the Team awards during the last game of the season in 05. The Canucks fans cheered for minutes. Canucks fans show love to their players. --- You may not here the Montreal chants, but trust me during the game there are plenty of chants that go on -- ie. Whenever Luongo makes a save --- Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
WORD.

Prabh - about the Linden game the crowd was actually pretty loud, the cheer was loud and every time he started to speak it got louder, happened about 4 or 5 times until he started talking regardless of the cheering and thats when the crowd clicked and the calmed down.
theres was also a couple of linden linden linden cheers during the ceremony, and also a couple of we want linden cheers during the game.
overall i thought the ceremony went pretty well and # 16 got the ovation he deserved. (best part was seeing Bettman getting booed lol)

On the Sundin story, i am glad he picked Vancouver. i was actually pretty shocked as i thought he would have went to NY. Sundin will help the team out in many ways. He will put the puck in the net and will also help us with our PP. We needed a big center who can put the pucks in the net and can be a force on the ice. The reality still is that we still need more pieces to go all the way. We need more depth in our system to help us out. Sundin will benefit the canucks in many ways but the truth is that he will probably be the only guy scoring in the playoffs. Which is not enough. The twins always blank out in the playoffs and without another top 6 they will not make it all the way this year. Sundin will help them reach an extra round and make playoffs but the reality is that they do not have enough to go all the way. I hope i am proved wrong and they actually do go all the way as i am a huge canucks fan but the reality is that they still need a couple more links. The only way they are going to advance is if they have a season like 94 where they moved to the finals being the underdogs.

Also, A major injury to Luongo will terminate all our playoff hopes. Even with schneider being a great goalie and sanford standing on his head in every other game it will not help us in playoffs. Schneider needs alot for experience but will be a great goalie one day. We have a great chance of finishing 3rd in west and winning our divisions but getting past detroit and san jose will be a tough task. Detroit has a lot of depth in their system and have way to many players that can punish your goalie.

and for crowd about 1/3 of the crowd usually leaves with a couple mins left to the game. i was at the linden game and with 3 min left canucks were up 3-1 and alot of people started to leave (Bad decision as Edmonton scored with 1 min left and made it interesting). Many of the people who do leave are their for business and have no love for the game, they have shown their face and now just want to leave lol. Thats the problem you have when you sell 18000 season tickets and expect a lively crowd everynight. Gm place is always filled with suits and ties. You cannot get gooned and cheer your ass off and taunt when your sitting next to your client lol.

Mind all the errors as i don't feel like proofreading ahah.

GTD said it all... Vancouver is the only city in Canada that probably has more fake fans than real ones... Teams like Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal have fans that ride out the worst of times... I'm a pretty avid hockey watcher, Vancouver is never mentioned at all in anything... They dont talk about Vancouver hockey, the fans, the team or anything at all.. Vancouver is actually somewhat sort of decent this year, and still no one gives a flying f*ck about them... Being a Sharks fan, I know how Vancouver fans feel when no one gives a flying f*ck about the, cause the Sharks dont get nearly as much attention as they should either... Because of our historic start, finally we get some air time, but usually we dont get shit... Vancouver is a fake me out wannabee sports market, like GTD said earlier... All the years that vancouver sucked, you didnt hear a peep out of the so-called vancouver fans, but now with the acquisition of sundin its like they just got their ticket to the stanley cup... I guess they forgot that they play in the west where the Sharks and Redwings reside... Sorry, but Vancouver is no where remotely close to an elite team... I'm not saying this from a biased point of view, ask any legit hockey fan, they well echo my words... I've been a fan of the sharks since the sergei makarov, igor larionov, arturs urbe, jamie baker days... those were also the days when the sharks lost like 60 games a year...

you guys are all dead wrong man. You guys are forgetting the 94' stanley cup run, you guys are forgetting the west coast express, you guys are forgetting epic games like canucks vs dallas in the 07 playoffs. Don't underestimate the canucks OR their fans. Just because this is a desi forum doest mean you should judge canucks fans based the wannabe desis who are "fans". And Im aware that there are a lot. However, there are tons of die hard fans in that city. Don't just narrow your judgement down to just desis. Of course canucks fans are excited to have sundin. We havent had an all around guy like that since Bertuzzi. Aside from guys like Wellwood or Hordichuk, we lack a big body among forwards. Naslund was declinomg before he left, morrisson was plagued with injuries, and linden left. We needed a solid veteran to lead these guys and we got it. Nobody said we're gonna win the stanley cup this year, BUT we are saying we'll go deeper into the playoffs and thats definitely an improvement. You canucks haters need to cool it a bit because your interpretations of canucks fans on this forum are hella exaggerated. We pump our team up as much as any of you. Just watch and see what happens.
