Thanks Sunny. I appreciate the kind words. I do not find the need to respond to false accusations or people's assumptions on what I think and what I did. This will give ur post more importance than it needs. I have been in the bhangra circuit long enough to gain the respect I have in people's eyes. It takes a long time to earn that and i will continue to promote what i want to promote which is traditional Bhangra. I know I will have to deal with issues as I may not be able to make everyone happy. But main jaan da te mera rabb jaan da.. naa main aj tak kise team baare maara sochiya te na kadi sochaanga. But if u still think what I did was wrong then I apologize for it. MCB te aayo ja na aayo but u guys are a great group of dancers.Keep dancing and promoting Bhangra.
These "false accusations" have been said for the past three years now by all the hometown teams that have had the unfortunate pleasure of performing at your competition. Nothing changed. You still treat us like shit.

Also here's the proof to last year's ceremony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrjOJ2_R728&ebc=ANyPxKq_xqvMKTLTROlTmuaQcrdaNw5BdFs3NsnLcqbBtC5hQ7kpw61ZnO9xkZyLkpMPiBmarIu7KJGfDy8PmCopVyXg194Uyw

So you are not going to address the false mishaps and assumptions of techtime, playing the wrong mix and lighting cues, lineup issues, not providing the performing? Transparency AF!!!!!

On a side note here are the videos with time frames. Hope these are as accurate as your lighting cues!!

So the complaints that I have been hearing have been the exact same since the first year of MCB with teams from Michigan. This past weekend I was able to experience MCB with an out of state team (NSG) and I can confidently say that the experience was completely different. Out of state teams definitely get better treatment than home teams.

The mixer was fun with all the games. Choosing show order with the dice was a cool way that I don't believe has been done before but was just very poorly executed. Food was very cold, appetizers and entrees. Also wasn't a fan of the fact that emcees talked in Punjabi the whole time. Once in a while is fine but since there are many teams with many people that don't speak punjabi, i think its best that you speak english so that everyone understands what is going on.

Post mixer practices ran smoothly. We were given the room for some extra time but the floor was not cleaned after the mixer so there was a mess on the floor which took up an easy 3-4 feet off the room. The first to years of MCB we (Furteelay) were rushed out of the room shortly after our practice time ended.

Tech time in the morning was easily an hour late for us. Before leaving the hotel i asked multiple liaisons on whether or not everything was on time and they all said it was running only 10min late. when we got there we weren't even given a proper spot to sit or stretch until we were on deck. we were just told to wait in a basement hallway. When our time was up, tech time ran much smother this year than any year Furteelay has competed. With Furteelay, organizers would talk and try to create conversation with dancers while we were trying to figure things out. This year, none of the committee members talked to dancers unless it was relevant to our performance.

After tech time is when the whole show order deal happened. this was a major disturbance for our captains. just because a team doesn't has their stuff together doesn't mean you can change the whole show order for them. we, NSG, offered to let them borrow our vests or not to wear them at all during the performance and just tell the judges not to dock points for that. We didn't get our saaps in on time for the performance so i asked RVD if we could borrow theirs and they were happy to let us use them (Thanks guys). After the team was moved to the end of the show, all music teams were moved up 2 spots rather than just having every team move up one.

Show seemed to run smoothly but there was little space for teams to get ready. Everyone had to share two rooms and small hallways. this also made it hard for people to practice before going on stage. it took me 20min just to find a decent amount of space to run the set and even then I had to stop for people to walk by. Same thing as the mixer, emcees talked in punjabi the whole time. I know a lot of people that didn't speak punjabi that were very confused as to what was going on during the show. sound system was a huge step up from the previous years. during the award ceremony, don't think it was right how you only called out RVD asking if they got second.

Going into the weekend i wasn't expecting much for the after party because of the past years. with the show ending a bit late and some of the team not making it back until 11-1130, no one made it to the after party before 1 and was quickly shut down.

Overall, this weekend seemed to be a step up mainly because i was part of an out of state team. the same issues have been occurring over the past years with hoe teams and it seems that nothing is being done to resolve them.

Also, it's a competitions duty to provide teams with water bottles up until at least the after party. this is the first competition where i was struggling to find a single water bottle during the competition. shout out to Jagga for getting me one. I understand that it's not right to waste water like some people do but that shouldn't be a reason for other not to have water. every person should be drinking roughly eight 8oz glasses of water a day. given that a water bottle is roughly 16oz this means each person on a normal day needs 4 water bottles. add an exercise like bhangra and you need much more than that everyday. Gary, you said you bought 1200 water bottles for 180 people for the weekend. that's only 6 water bottles per person for the entire weekend, if distributed correctly, which definitely isn't enough. and when we got to the venue on the day of the show, there were only 3 cases of water in the kitchen area.

I hope you take all this into consideration for the future and don't just play this off as "false accusations" like you have previously.

MCB is obviously trying to keep folk traditions alive from punjab itself by being disorganized, biased, and have improper judging. CANT GET MORE FOLK THAN THAT!

As someone who has danced on a team and also run a competition, everyone just needs to take a step back.

Gary has organized a great competition for 3 years in a row, and it has grown each time. MCB has a simple theme, being folk. MCB has been consistently working hard to keep the traditional aspects of modern bhangra at the forefront. I'm sure there are tons of issues everyone has with him, but still, it's not easy. With DDA, Fusion and other folk comps disappearing, everyone needs to understand how important MCB is. It gives a real outlet to a huge segment of our circuit. I love that the show is only in punjabi. You want english, go to wbbc or elite 8, lol.

He and his team worked really hard, and dancers should understand he's not perfect, no one is.

No need to bash MCB and Gary over and over.

My problem with MCB is that it gets the same reviews year after year about how disorganized it is. So it's not about Gary being "perfect", it's about him being less of a shithead.

On the flip side, if people feel so strongly about MCB being poorly run please stop applying. MCB can (and will continue to) do whatever they want because their competition produces strong lineups and publicity year after year. That's their right and if they don't care about making some enemies, then they're not gonna change. At MCB 2014, all of this same stuff happened. Judges who didn't stick to the rubric, disorganized practice spaces/tech time, etc. This should be a lesson to teams to read past comp reviews. Multiple bad reviews over a span of 2+ seasons equals a no go in my opinion

I understand that everyone is expecting in this post for me to bash Gary Khera and his competition Motor City Bhangra, but that is not the purpose of this post. I have spoken to Gary over the phone yesterday for about half an hour describing MBT's experience and my personal issues with this competition. Gary Khera and I do not have any personal beef or issues after that conversation and I told him exactly what I am going to write in this review.

My biggest issue with Motor City Bhangra is that the lack of transparency and communication throughout the competition. Whether it was the lineup change mid way through the day of the show to the tech time time deductions. I feel like the organization of this competition was poor this year in comparison to the past couple of years and needs to be seriously improved. MBT and I myself did not have a good time at this competition and were very disappointed with how everything went down this weekend.

From what I read earlier, some of the hometown teams are furious with this competition. My suggestion to Gary is that if you want to make it right to RVD, MBT, and Furteelay going into the future I would suggest that you provide us with extra amenities moving into the future. I suggest that you waive our registration fees for next year or provide a extra subsidization on the team hotels. These things go a long way and shows that you care about us hometown teams. Because in all honesty who does not want to compete in their hometown in front of their friends and family. It also draws a lot of ticket sales for you because of all the friends and family that these dancers can bring to your show. It's a win win for both sides and I do feel like you should make it right. However, it is up to these respective team captains if they are willing to come back. If they are then these amenities can make up for some of the shortcomings of this competition.

My biggest issue however was not with Gary, but with the judges meeting as DCMPAA has mentioned above. At this judges meeting I was told absolutely nothing except "Hey Howie your pagh was coming off and you should of pulled it down." "This is how you tie a pagh going into the future." "Do you wear glasses on stage." How does this help my team improve. I then asked what do we need to improve on and some of the judges looked to each other and had no clue what to say except you guys need to finish your moves." I know many of you may not agree with me on this, but thank god Gary stepped in and told us exactly what was wrong with our set. He said it needed to be more folk and that our set was a bit too modern for this competition and missed traditional steps such as mirza. That made more sense than " Do you wear glasses with your pagh and how to to tie a pagh 101." I do agree that these judges do have knowledge about Bhangra, but that does not necessarily make you a good judge. in the same retrospect it is the same way that being a good dancer doesn't make you a good captain or a good Bhangra judge. It is sad on the judges part that Gary understood what was wrong with our set than they did. I do agree that we should not of placed at MCB, but some real constructive feedback would be nice.

I want to end this review by saying that yes I understand some of the teams are furious with this competition and the organizer, but you all also need to understand that running a competition is not easy. This whole weekend is a stressful ordeal sometimes not for only the teams, but for the liasons, committee, and the organizer as well. They have a million and one things to worry about starting months prior to the competition to that Sunday when that competition is over. So you do need to be a bit sympathetic with MCB committee and Gary. However, this does not take away form the bad experience MBT has had this weekend.

I will end on this note. For as long as I am one of the captains of The Michigan Bhangra Team, we do not plan on coming back to this competition. I do not know what happens with the subsequent generations of this team and what their plans are, but as long as I am still at this school we do not plan on coming back to this competition.

I do wish Gary and MCB the best of luck in moving forward from this and look forward to Motor City Bhangra coming back next year without these issues. Congratulations to NSG and Alamo for their respective placings and to SPD for making one of the baddest and best sets I have every seen.
