Mic For Dhol?

Hey guys. Okay so I want to get a mic for my dhol. What mic would u guys suggest for my dhol, I have an amb wood dhol right now but I got a kalli talli dhol in the making, should be here in a month or so. So what mic should a get and where in my dhol should i place it? Closer to the dhagga or to the thilli and what way should it be facing? Thanks

My dhol is a kachi paki, and it has a seinheiser e604. when on a speaker system, it rocks it out. very accurate, and very good bass support. i love it! Damn some DJs for not letting me mic up every gig
the mic was put in by the maker, but it's closer to the tilli side, and it's facing the dhagga side. i've opened up the dhol a few times to check it out and all.

Hey thanks alot jasmeet Thats wut i heard also, a sm shure 57 closer to thilli but facing dhagga i think ill do that and does your thilli still sound good in da system and also does the bass sound good?

well...i'm no expert on the install of it and all. but that's what i've seen with how my mic is placed. overall, it sounds awesome. it's a studio quality mic, and produces studio quality sound. last weekend it was hooked up to a big system in a giant hall...worked wonderfully. i just had to make sure the DJ didn't mess with the levels after i did a sound check. the bass is excellent, and tilli good too. can't complain about it really.

i personally like my e604 more, but it's all good really.

you'll really enjoy it when it's hooked up. just make sure to the tell the DJ to pump up the volume, and sound check it as well.

yeah bro i def will do that, most djs dont really like it when dhol players are using their mics they all expect us to play hard and loud as raju dholi hahah but yeah i read reviews about the mic it sounds like its pretty good im gonna look for one on ebay

Lollll i thinkt here the normal sized mics? corect me if im wrong. and im not sure how to install my dads friend knows how to do that so hes gonna do it for me

I'm thinking to get a Sennheiser E604 but Im not quite sure since the Shure SM57 is also pretty good. Never heard either of them in use too which makes it harder to choose, any help here?

I have dhol with Audiz d2 also and its awesome sounds clean and clear....Actually sounds better than any other mic....I would go with Audix D2....

I've personally gone through a SM 57 and heard a SM 58. I upgraded to a Audix D6 mic which is in my talli. I've also heard a Shure D112 mic along with a Shure Beta 52 in a Dhol.


Personally recommend the Audix D6, Shure D112 or Beta 52. The Shure SM 57 and 58 are not bad at all but they're vocal mics. You get a really crisp high pitch sound out of your tilli out of those but you want a kick drum mic for your Dhol. With the SM 57 I used to get a lot of feed back from the Dagga. I like the Audix D6 its good clean even tone and crisp. But many people have been recommending the D112 from Shure as well. Hearing that its an awesome mic as well. I've heard it and it sounds sick too but a bit on the pricey side. So is the Beta 52. THe Beta 52 is usually used quite often for a lot of percussion instruments, drums, tabla, etc. The Beta 52 is legit. Sounds sick as well.




What I would recommend is taking your Dhol with you when you go buy your mic and talk to you a rep there. He'll give more knowledge on which mic to use. But most likely a kick drum mic would be the best bet. I've gone through 3 SM 57's (could never find a good stand for it inside my Dhol). But best of luck

Just make sure I'm doing this right. So I have to drill one hole to bolt in the mic clip and then another hole for the xlr jack. Then you solder the mic wire to the jack. Do you basically just cut the wire to the distance between two holes? Do I need to secure the wire against the barrel? Thanks
