Misnomers - "live" and "music"

The usage of the words live and music to distinguish the 2 main categories of performances is very misleading and ambiguous. This is especially true for people who are new to bhangra. They would be confused by such terms.

I say this because:
  • Live performances still require music -- it's just live music
  • Music performances are still performed live in front of an audience -- it's just recorded music
So why not just call the categories Live Music and Recorded Music?

lol well you might as well bring up the misnomer's for other naming's for categories "traditional" and "modern" and then "girls"

this has been brought up before in numerous threads.

i think the argument has been made somewhere that most teams that dance to cd are not traditional in the sense that they aren't dancing to live music and aren't all guys and that everyone else is a modern team. this being followed by endless posts to the contrary or to agree with it.

lol i think it will be funny when the day comes a live girls team tries to make the big jump to compete with all guy live teams in the traditional category hahaha. any see the reference im making to pga and lpga; annika sorensten?

i think alot of people on this thread need to just chill out.

I agree with you Arjun...I also found it amusing the way you set up your argument...hahah like the format of the post...reminded me of like an LSAT logic game.

I also get confused when some competitions refer to the "Recorded Music" categories as "Modern" and then the "Live" categories as "Dhol/Traditional."

with competitions like that
what happens if a team does a live boli segment, then goes into a mix?
what category do they fall under?

I would say Half Live Music, Half Recorded Music, like Heeray Punjab De.

O and I guess they would not be able to compete in any competition that has 2 separate categories. I'm sure the rules say "you cannot be in both categories. Your routine has to be all recorded or all sung/played live)."
