you guys down to start a mixing ladder? this concept is used in most pvp video games but it can work here too.. not sure if we have enough mixers to do this since remixing has been on the decline on BTF but hopefully people outside BTF get involved in this.

if you don't know what I mean by mixing ladder.. its a ranking system in which you have 20 mixers, each starting out at a random position on the ladder all outmixing each other for rank #1.. and once you get to #1 you have to defend that title for as long as you can..the only way to stay #1 is by pumpin out the best mixes each challenge and thats hard to do and very unlikely. #1 is gona be changing constantly and thats the best part about a competitive ladder.. your never gauranteed a win every time because you may have a banging mix for one challenge and totally flop the next..

well need around 20 mixers, their position on the ladder will be based by their join date.. so the first person to join will get spot 1 the second person to join will get spot 2 etc...you can challenge up to 2 ranks ahead of you so for example #4 on the ladder can only challenge either #3 or #2.. #10 on the ladder can only challenge either #9 or #8 etc..once you challenge the mixer, a song is provided from a third party source (completely random song it could be a popular one, could be an easy one, it could be a hard ass frikkin mirza boli who knows, thats the challenge of it).. the best minute long mix wins and its win by vote, well set up a universal rubric for easy marking.

lets say 48 hour time limit to accept the challenge, if no response is giving by whoever you challenge or the remixer declines your challenge you automatically win and take their place on the ladder and they take yours.. and well say umm 48 hours to get the mix done? that should be enough..each challenge shouldn't take longer then 5 days(including voting day).. if the mixer you challenge responds right away then it should only take 3 days(including voting day)... once both mixers complete the mix they post em together in thread for btfers to vote.. well say 24hr limit on voting?


heres the thing though without 20 people that are within the same level of skill in mixing this can't work.. even if we had 10 good mixers and 10 mixers that have their moments it could still work

this is probably confusing for many but its really really fun once you get into it.. if your wondering whats the purpose of this.. there isn't one its just fun and you get braggin rights if your into that.

Agreed. So One idea would be to have an anonymous poll so the names of the tracks would not be revealed but even then if someone wants to contract votes, they could just tel their friends to vote for so and so song. HMPH!

No downloads. Online stream. No mixer signatures. Algorithm to rotate tracks through random track numbers. Modulate shield frequencies. Red Alert, Number One. Red Alert.

sick concept...in an ideal world this would work....id love to be a part but i cant... 48 hour time limit to finish a mix (along with every day shit you gotta do) doesnt seem like much... but kush is right, this is gonna be too flawed and biased. i rather you set up a mixing competition like you did last year (but this time we can actually finish it haha) and have that be that... also with a competition instead of a ladder we can post rankings and wait till the next competition again to see who moved up, down, etc on the ladder instead of having it be rapid mixing (quality, not quantity, is a personal motto)


however, once the mixing competitions begin, and the initial rankings are set...you could look into DJs accepting personal battles for rankings and give them a personal song to go head to head with and have a week or so to finish it?

my idea is basically combining your competition from last year with this ladder idea just not as fast paced. lemme know wtucha think.

Sick concept. 2nyce seems to have a good compromise. Unless u guys can set aside a week just to mix nonstop a la hackathons, I feel it'd be too rushed

I'd be down to increase the 2 day time limit to 7 days .. that should be ample time to get the idea in AND get creative and master it.. everyone cool with that?


I still prefer the ladder concept though only because 1on1 is always more exciting and intense then group competitions, I can imagine people trying harder and detailing their mixes more because of the whole 1on1 competitive atmosphere.. if its a group competition a lot of the beginner remixers just blend in with each other and they don't get any spotlight because their facing off with more experienced remixers, it's a huge turn off for them from the competition so they dont try as hard, especially if they have low confidence in their mixes to begin with.. with the ladder system your always facing someone within your reach especially when you get like a month or two into the ladder when the rankings become more accurate.

As for the bias voting.. there really is no way to completely avoid that but an effective way to deter it would be taking out the voting poll and just make people post their vote with marks and comments for each mix.. this is effective because if person A has a legit sick mix and is losing to person B who has a poorly made remix but also has a ton of friends, his friends are going to have a hard time justifying why that crappy mix should win, thus making it easier for us to fish out the bullshitters and dick riders.. then off that we can either just give the cut eye and count the vote or create a blacklisting system for voters lol
