So funny it was like a 21st century version of Mansoor al-Hallaj hahaha :D

Compton you ever listen to Segal's music? He had this kickass collection of vintage guitars, don't know if he has them anymore, but his music is great, he did some songs with Richie Sambora too, my highschool jazz band conductor used to hang out with Jon and Richie they're really cool
What the heck Segal is awesome. I knew he played guitar but never heard him, I will check it out. Dude is talented for sure.

Question Moderators, jokes about women get edited with "jokes that demean women- not funny"..but a thread dedicated to "sardar jokes" received no moderation. Any reason for that?

didn't it turn into a discussion on the morality of Sardar jokes? and I don't think the thread was "dedicated" to sardar jokes.

Eventually, after myself and a couple other people brought up the stupidity of the jokes it turned into a discussion on the morality of the jokes..but it began as jokes on Sardars with no moderation.

Harman,
We allow discussion/jokes on BTF unless it is ESPECIALLY crude/violent/inappropriate or an unnecessary escalation of the thread. We also weigh if multiple users were so inflamed by the post that they reported it. In this case, the moderator saw a domestic abuse joke and decided that crossed the line, and moderated it. I looked at a couple of jokes from the 'punjabi jokes thread' and none of them really pertained to beating or killing anyone, thankfully. We really do strive for consistency.

We make judgment calls. As best as we can. And I support the calls made in this thread. More recently, an image with the n-word was removed, as per the mandate given to us by the community.

Honestly, we do the absolute best we can to be consistent, timely, and provide this service free of charge to you as a community. I would happily give everyone their donation to BTF back if they are unhappy, but I have received a total of 3 donations since we started asking about 8 months ago, and one of them was from a moderator, so I think he's happy.

Best regards,
Saleem

PS - Correction: actually, 2 of the 3 donations were from mods. The 2nd was from Swi back in February before he was a mod so I in error didn't count it correctly.

Were they really jokes on Sardars?
thats pretty lame if there were. those are especially demeaning because they are aimed at a group who have suffered in history while working hard to preserve freedom and justice. most of them are blonde jokes made into 'sardar jokes.' they dont even make sense. everyone knows sardars hold leadership positions in all aspects of life...how has 'sardars being dumb' become a common stereotype? doesn't make sense to me. as a people sikhs are very successful, especially when compared to other indian groups.

Perceived Sardarji Threat to Indian Elite

Researcher Jawaharlal Handoo associates some traits of the Sardarji jokes with the stereotype of Sikhs being associated with jobs where physical fitness is more important than knowledge of the English language or intellect.[1] He also states that "Sikhs are a very prosperous and successful people ....this may have threatened the Hindu ego and created the anxiety which in turn seems to have taken the form of various stereotypes and the resultant joke cycle."[1] Soumen Sen states that these jokes perhaps reflect the anxiety of the non-Sikh Indian elite, who may have suffered from a sense of insecurity due to the growing competition from the enterprising Sikhs.[7]
