MOTOR CITY BHANGRA 2 PREPERATION QUESTIONS

Hello Everyone,
After a great response from all the teams who participated and our local community we will be continuing a bigger and better Bhangra competition next year with a NEW VENUE here in Michigan. Through all the discussions and suggestions posted by everyone who is part of the BTF community we sincerely thanks everyone for their input because that helps us tremendously to make the next year a memorable one for everyone!
As you all are aware that we pride ourselves as being one of the most traditional competition and we will continue to support our Punjabi cuture and hertitage through the competition.
This post is just to get some suggestions from everyone on BTF. In order to make the next competition even more successful than the first one we would like to have 2 categories Live and Music. The competition will be held in the end of January or beginning of Feb. No fixed date available yet. We would like to know if there will be enough Live teams that will be applying to our competition so we have enough time to make a decision whether to keep this idea or jus have an all Music category before the registration packet comes out in the end of Sept!

Please proofread your registration packet prior to making it available for download. I've read all of the registration packets that have been uploaded to BTF over the 2012-2013 season, and have noticed a few grammatical errors in almost all of them, but there were quite a few in the MCB 2013 registration packet. All of the grammar issues made the writing incoherent and even a little ambiguous at times.

I'm pretty sure since he's the organizer of Bhangra Fever, looking at other comps packets benefits the comp to make it more successful

I was captain of my team last year, and read the registration packets for competitions that we were considering applying to. I read additional registration packets to get an idea of what other competitions are like. When planning a competition, having a broad understanding of other competitions helps facilitate discussion, generate new ideas and marketing strategies. It's always good to have an understanding of your competition (pun intended).


But yeah, excuse me for reading. Don't you have anything better to do than to make snide remarks on BTF? A few days ago, you were criticizing one of the Mixing Ladder organizers for "taking their job too seriously," and now this?

Great point though! I am glad to see that the MCB committee is receptive to suggestions. For Pao, we probably spent a month or two proofreading our reg packet before posting it on BTF.

As I've always said before, the competition was alot of fun. One thing I'd recommend for next year is to have the after party in a place that has a larger capacity.

Is there any way for cover for the after party to be cheaper than $30? There was a fairly big group of people who decided to go to the nearby clubs instead to save money.

We apologize for that. Due to some construction work that was supposed to get done in the club where the after party was held did not finish on time we were short on space and we were expecting a large crowd and due to the capacity concerns we had to hike the price at the door to limit the amount of people who can enter in at one time. The prices were also cheaper online or through reservation which most people did and they ended up getting $20 cover.
Next year we will not only be organizing this competition in a very large and new auditorium but also the after party venue will be in a much bigger venue to accomodate everyone.
Again thank you for all the suggestions. It will help us improve as an organization as a whole.

Just a reminder that we still need to know if any live teams will be available to compete next year most likely between end of Jan and beginning of Feb. So all the Live Teams please either PM us or comment on the thread so we can make a decision to either have 2 categories Live and Music or just 1 (music). Please let us know as soon as possible.

Most (or all?) of the live/music US competitions are in California. [/SIZE][SIZE=small]Live/music comps are successful in California because there is a much larger population of Punjabis/Indians/Desis in that region. There is a larger market of people who appreciate live bhangra, and bhangra in general. I wonder how a live/music comp would fare in Detroit. I'm sure some of the live teams in Canada would be inclined to cross the border to perform in the Motor City.[/SIZE]

Daman as you might know that Nachdi Jawani Live placed first in our first Motor City Bhangra Comp. this year and live bhangra was very well appreciated by our local community here. We got really good feedback from alot of people who said they would love to see more and that is what we would like to achieve as well because we want to be the most traditional comp out there and that is our goal. We want to showcase both sides of Bhangra. Live Bhangra is as important to us as Bhangra on Music because both categories are keeping our Punjabi Heritage alive all across the globe.
You brought up a good point that there are a lot of Live teams closer to California area and that is why we want them to apply to our competition so we can showcase their talent all over America and not restrict it to one area. One way to help out will be increasing the prize money and also good deals on Hotels and transportation to cut down some of the cost associated with coming far which we as a committee will take into consideration before making the registration packet this year.

PDDS comeback would be sick, but I think most of the members of the team are now in graduate/medical school or already in their careers around the US.

I saw a few of those guys kill it at a wedding a few weekends ago.
Also heard that some of those guys still dancing and playing dhol for that other Detroit team. Oh well, one can only dream for so long.
