so....now what? it appears that so far although many american and european intelligence officials think that it is LeT behind the attacks, and one of the culprits has said that he was trained by LeT and former Pakistani officials...LeT is denying responsibility....so where do we go from here? It just seems to confuse the situation further...These camps were located in Kashmir...The pakistani government is denying any involvement, although it appears that ex-Pakistani officials were involved...are these people remnants of the old Pakistani government? Who is to blame? I tend to think that it's difficult to point blame at anyone...it can be said that Pakistan needs to tighten its grip on terror, but with terror cells developing in even more developed country's (i.e. London subway attacks)...how can you blame Pakistan, a country already in turmoil for not being able to stop this?

p.s. I started a new topic with this new information...the other one veered off course a bit...

I think the number one thing India and the international community need to do, is firstly undersatnd which direct parties were involved. If these ex paksitani government officials were involved, then there must be some state interest involved. If there is a state interest, then the links have to worked back to see if the current government (which obviously has elements of the last government) had ANY involvement with this issue... IE- the ISI.

That first picture in that mini slide show pissed me off, and I hope that garbage stops. The third is more relfective of the mood I guess in India right now, for the moment. I think what always boggled my mind is that there needs to be, like Jeeti said, a crackdown by Pakistan. It seemed like Musharaff had elements of that crackdown. His governemnt for the most part dictated the terrorists, and not the other way around.

In my opinion, Bin Laden, and other Al Qaeda suspects are in paksitan, and the only reason that the border of afghanistan and pakistan is being thrown about is that if it came out that Bin Laden is in paksitan, the pressure to mount attacks and to mount an oofensive in Paksitan would be great, and it would create immense political powers. It would be a hassle just to neutralize a somewhat minimialized group as far as bin laden his assoicates.

ONe thing that people need to get out of their mind is that Pakistan is in turmoil, and therefore terrorist attack them, so it cant be from within (not saying you Jeeti). To simplify it as much as possible, in pakistan there are two groups that are fighting and causing the turmoil. One that is representative of the Musharraf old, military government, and one representative of the new government. Thats why there is turmoil. The attacks on the Marriot, the terrorist attacks, they are actions from these two ideologies warring with each other. Both have pakistani interests at heart, and both have paksitans prosperity at heart. These terrorists in Paksitan committing atrocities in their homeland, also can, and are willing to create those abroad in the name of Pakistan.

If pakistan wants to be known as a country who is more diplomatic in their approach to international relations, they need to stop pretending and hiding their interests. They need to cut ties with the terrorist organizations that they have been funding for about 30 years or so. It does mean concessions, and it will mean they will have to give up some leverage int he kashmir, and in general, but if they are to travel to the diplomatic route, it must be done.

India needs to stop pressuring, and continue to falunt their military in Kashmir, and imposing theri force on paksitan. India's government push the attackers over the edge with their careless disregard for human life, and their willingness to set forth boundry debates in the thought that their superior current state will mean progress.

As if the situation could not get any worse for Pakistan/ Pakistani citizens that condone this behavior....

There is no doubt that most of the terrorists were Pakistani. However, there needs to be a clear distinction between the actions of the Pakistani government and people versus the actions of LeT. Yes, LeT is based in Pakistan but has been banned in Pakistan since 2002.

The Pakistani government has been coming down hard on these militants in the past week. Even charity organizations that have any remote links to LeT have been closed down, their official arrested and their offices closed.

There was a really good article by Arundhati Roy in the Guardian recently. Its kind of long but worth the read as it addresses some of the issues highlighted in this discussion.

Does anyone know what the Indian Government ended up doing with the bodies of the terrorists? As far as I know, the Muslims in India refused to bury them in their grounds... :-\
