The South Asian Student Association at the College of William & Mary and the NKD 2013 Committee are proud to present this year's esteemed judging panel! These six judges have graciously agreed to contribute their time and experience to our show, and the NKD Committee is excited to see the judges' decisions on March 30th!

Bhangra Judges:

Mariam Afzal has been dancing in the competitive bhangra circuit since 2009, and established herself as a very knowledgeable and well-respected female leader in it. Her resume includes 14 competitions with 6 diverse teams: co-ed collegiate (Wolverine Bhangra), academy teams in Toronto (TAG) and Vancouver (AVA), an independent team in Detroit (ASD), a live team (Madak Punjab Dee), and an all-star collaboration (East Side Alliance). She has also been awarded 2 Best Dancer trophies.

Havish Bhalani has been an active member of the bhangra community as a dancer, captain, choreographer, coach, and competition organizer. His bhangra career began in 2004 when he joined VCU Bhangra and went on to become captain in 2005-2008. In 2006 he co-founded Pyare Putt Ankhiley (PPA), a traditional live bhangra team and was on the executive board of Apna Virsa Apna Punjab Bhangra Competition (AVAP) in 2008 and 2009. After graduation Havish continued coaching VCU Bhangra until 2010 and went on to coach DC Bhangra Crew (DCBC) in 2010-2011. Havish also has experience dancing in the Garba/Raas community where he co-founded VCU Raas and danced with Drexel Dandiya. Overall he has competed at 30 competitions all across the United States and Canada and received a trophy at 22 of them, while the teams he has coached placed at 13 out of 14 competitions. Havish has been a judge at Bhangra Blowout and Aaj Ka Dhamaka.

Kavika Dilawari has been an active member of the bhangra community since 2008. As captain of William and Mary Dhamaal, she choreographed routines and restructured the team to contend at several competitions. In this capacity, she also organized William and Mary's bhangra exhibition show to provide newer collegiate teams from Virginia and Maryland a platform to showcase their talent. Upon graduation from the College in 2011, she joined DC Bhangra Crew, an independent all-girls team, and performed at numerous competitions and shows with them until Spring 2012. Last year, she judged the first Nach Ke Dikha competition and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Fusion Judges:

Supriya Pattanaik has actively participated in the Bollywood and Classical dance circuits since the age of ten, taking part in numerous shows and competitions in the DC area. She first learned Hip Hop at the Creative Dance Studio, and then learned Bollywood and Kathak dance at Jhanak Dance Academy starting in 2008. In addition, Supriya devoted some of her time to a small Belly Dancing group in the Maryland area. Throughout her career, she has competed successfully at the Zee Heritage, IDC, and IDEA dance competitions among many others. In 2012 she was one of the top five competitors in the Miss India DC Pageant.

Neha Raparla started out dancing Bharatanatyam at age five as most Indian girls do. More than a decade later, after dabbling in most forms of Indian dance, she thought it would be interesting to try out other forms of dance like Argentine Tango, Modern, and Hip Hop and ended up dancing on Syndicate, William and Mary's Hip Hop crew. Currently Neha is teaching dance classes through her company Bollywood Burn-Off, a mixture of Bollywood dance and a great workout!

Henna Shah is a passionate dance with experience in Bollywood, Bhangra, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Lyrical/Contemporary. She has been dancing since the age of three and is a fanatic when it comes to Bollywood movies, music, and dance. She is currently captain of JHOOM at VCU, and she has her own professional performing business. For three years, Henna was a dance instructor through Rhythm-n-NAACH Bollywood School of Dance in Northern VA. She also competed in Boogie Woogie and Zee Heritage competitions and received winning titles.
