Nachde Nashville is a 2nd year comp this year, and while it's great to see it getting so big so quickly, it feels like the standard of collegiate comps is settling out to either "Blowout level" or "First year level" with very little in between for up-and-coming teams. This is another manifestation of what was said in Howie's post about losing the fire among younger teams who aren't already at that top level.
It is unfortunate that you guys didn't make it into the lineup. But if something like this discourages you, then that's a problem. I remember the days when my teams would get rejected from literally every competition except for 1 per year. That made us work more than anything else. Rejection should fuel the fire.
For whatever reason NN committee didn't think you guys were the best fit for their lineup. You guys are/were missing something. Find out what that is and work on it. Fix it. And become a team that no one can turn away.
It's a shitty situation if you're a collegiate dancer because your dancing years are marked. You go into the next season looking to improve, however if the platform is pulled out from underneath you, it's hard for that internal fire to continue burning. In this case, there may have been many seniors on Vtech that wanted to go back to NN for a second crack at 1st place, which they have been poised to make since the end of last season, but now after a year of building that fire, it was all for nothing. It is disheartening because this was their last chance. (Only hypothetical)
Idk who's pulling what from under anyone. But its a competition. If VT was gunning for that 1st place at NN, why didn't they do enough to put themselves in a position to be undeniable? NN is going to do what they feel is best. Unless its in their rules that they bring back placing teams no matter what, then sure you can call them out. But if you as a team aren't doing all you can to be undeniable, then I really see no reason to complain. "Be so good they can't ignore you." - Steve Martin.
The hypothetical story you paint is disheartening, sure. Or it's motivating. I really hope VT takes this rejection as fuel to their fire to rip their next few audition tapes and get into whatever other comps they apply to. And I don't want them to stop there. I want them to then place/win at those comps and be able to flip the bird at NN when the seasons over. THAT would be a senior send off.
You can choose to be disheartened, or choose to be motivated.
PS: I don't mean to offend VT or NN or anyone. Just trying to keep it 100.
