To btf community,

I understand you guys want to teach and promote sportsmanship and respect in the younger children and teach them about enjoying competitions however there's one thing you guys fail to realize. There is a reason why they are called Bhangra COMPETITIONS.

You dont see NHL or NBA players going around saying "hey that was a great season I mean officiating was completely against us, but that's fine because we enjoyed the 80 something games just losing".

Bhangra competitions are meant to be COMPETITIVE. People want to win. That's why they compete.

Rather than trying to tell kids to suck it up and enjoy losing we as a community need to put pressure on competitions to increase judging consistency.

Organizers throw up competitoins, have teams come in from so far and than have holes and inconsistencies in thier placings and score sheets.

I firmly believe Bhangra competitive need to post score sheets publicly without any alterations.

Teams are going to get better and Bette. Bhangra is going to get faster and more technical. Dancers are going to get hungrier and hungrier. The only thing is that competitions need to keep up.

The competitiveness in the bhangra circuit is honestly getting a out of hand... Back in the day everyone used to look forward to competitions for what they were meant to be, competitive but fun and entertaining while bringing teams together to collaborate and enjoy a weekend! Nowadays I feel like you hear about a competition and the rivalries or fights that may erupt. In addition to that, having to even think about teams not being satisfied with how they were judged. Most competitions now in fact DO give out their judging sheets with their registration packet itself. Its all about what you make of it. If a team did that well and unfortunately did not place as well as they thought they would and along with that the crowd agrees, then use that as motivation to do just as well or better at the next competition and there should be no reason why you don't take home the crown.

THIS IS NOT THE NBA OR NHL OR NFL. This is NOT some professional sports league as much as we all think it to be. We all love bhangra and LOVE the circuit and the competitions but we cannot let this get to our heads.Realistically, we should all be competing for the crown but there should be no disrespect in between in any way.

If at some point Bhangra really does turn into a professional sports league here in the US / Canada..... well then completely scratch what I said and do what you have to do. Just note, even professional sports teams do not give back trophies or medals if they did not get first place. Just take it with a grain of salt and move on.

If you work hard and you don't get rewarded, it's understanding to be disappointed. But guess what-THIS IS LIFE!!!!!!

Handle yourself with respect. Deal with the disappointment in a respectable and decent manner. THIS is something we should be teaching the younger generation.

Respect the other teams that have stepped on the same stage as you. Respect your elders, the judges, and most importantly the organizers-because without the organizers YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A STAGE TO DANCE ON!! This team caused so much controversy in the past month or so that it'd be a pure miracle if you're allowed to compete at a show. You do know that organizers read this forum on the reg, right?

All you're doing on this thread and on this forum is showing your complete LACK of respect for your fellow performers, judges, and as a matter of fact the dance itself.

You know what-you don't deserve the praise that you've been getting over this performance. You don't deserve shit. Hard work doesn't mean anything if you lack the maturity to accept "what might not happen."

UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care your age or the fact that this is a "junior team." Absolutely unacceptable. Was sportsmanship not taught in the schools you kids go to/by your coach? What do you think sportsmanship doesn't matter in bhangra, or because "you worked so hard?"

I stand by every word I said before and every word I say in this post. Get off your high horses. Grow up.

:/ your team really need to stop bumping this thread for no reason. We get it, you're annoyed you didn't win. So go to the next competition that suits your style and win, because you have the ability to do that so go do it and stop wasting your time whining about it to us when it isn't actually going to change a thing. If you guys were trying to push consistency within judging and maybe asking for the competition to be more clear about the style of bhangra they wanted to see then I could understand somewhat but even in that case it is your responsibility or your coach's to find that out before applying. If sgpd went to DDA and did their elite 8 set they would not win over the best live team there most likely, why? because it was full of gimmicky stuff, hip hop beats and modified moves etc and DDA is a super traditional competition! teams do their best to apply to competitions that suit their style more and more now to increase their chances of placing rather than just any and every competition they can. So if you only care about placing then don't go to competitions that won't appreciate your teams style.

we expect you to be respectfully competitive...

big difference between that and being disrespectfully competitive... if that makes any sense

Can we really blame the kids? The majority of the "best" teams on the circuit are unbelievably disrespectful and immature at competitions. They are learning from them.

Can we split this thread?

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with you!

But where do we go from here? How do we, as practically half of a community, say "cut the bullshit!"? How do we, as a community, get to a point where dancers looked forward to comps just to see good friends and enjoy themselves. I always heard stories that this was the circuit in 2006-but you'd never know this by looking at the circuit now... and it's a terrible shame.

I agree. I would, however, add that we as dancers/teams/&captain, need to keep it all in perspective, too

Here's the thing. It's not that you're wrong here because to an extent I agree here as well.

But this scenario has happened too often in the past few years with or without inconsistencies in judging. Everyone works hard, everyone pours their hearts out on the stage, everyone deserves to win, and every judge/audience member/coach/dancer has opinions.

Action needs to be taken on both sides of the spectrum here. This isn't a "this or that" situation-both need to be taken care of.

Frankly though, team captains and coaches need to know how to handle their dancers. Sportsmanship shouldn't be just a word-it should be a policy acknowledged and accepted by all teams. If in 2011 teams are giving back trophies, what's next-a team actually throwing a trophy at the organizers? Is this acceptable too because "oh that team's just hungry?"

Organizers and judges, please be more consistent with the rubric and judging. Captains/Leaders-teach your dancers sportsmanship and respect.

End of discussion. My ass has work to do.
