If you want to be real, then Elite 8 is what it is because of the first year. They were the first competition to bring together the top teams in North America. Back then almost everyone would agree that Bhangra Empire, SGPD, NJ, and VCU where the top 4 teams of the time and they brought all four into one competition. Thats why it was soo epic. This past year was weak compared to the first year. Teams this year at elite was overall disappointing compared to the previous year.
Elite 8 must pull a rabbit out of the hat. it's sophmore team selection was far weaker...in order to remain the top competition it has to have a lineup with more bite...elite 8's first year may have had a couple of weak teams, but they still had clout (LBC for ex.) Bruin's lineup is better than elite 8's, and if elite 8 wants to be the best competition, it needs to bring a better lineup.

aside from nj/sgpd, bruin offers hpd, vdw, kj, bk, apd and aeg, that in my opinion is a superior lineup to elite 8's...if nj and sgpd did not come to elite 8, it would be the third or fourth best comp. at best...it's time to stop relying on canada east for clout...

Actually, the only way for elite 8 to improve its line-up is to give up the concept of geographic selection. I understand, some regions have high value concentrations, and others low (e.g. canada east and canada west) when it comes to who REALLY has a chance at getting the trophy, but for elite 8 to have the ELITE line up, its going to have to give up geographic divisions.
Whether you're for or against that doesn't matter, but I'm just stating what I believe is a significant limiting factor in the line up.

I personally wish NJ could perform next year because I know it'd be fire, but the geographic limitations make way for teams like NYPD, TAG, etc. In terms of US West, damn. We're only really good for live teams in terms of actually having a shot at winning Elite 8.

- Orange jodi was very entertaining. Along with a couple others ( e.g. 1 of the red jodis) I had fun watching this routine because they looked like they were having fun. and please post the mix NJ lol

very correct a singh...by its definition, eliteness should not be in the context of geographic reference. elite 8 means the 8 best, and should no longer mean 2 from ea. region...it limits the competition...i would rather see 4 teams from toronto, 3 from cali and 1 from vancouver than see shittier teams chosen because "no one else was good from that area." there have been at least 4 cop-out selections in the 2 elite 8's we've seen. those cop-out selections hurt the competition's aura of being the best...

but back to nachdi...hope you guys come back to elite, because i know if you guys actually put your minds to it, you can crush anyone...

I agree with everything said. But, the geographical selections go make elite very interesting, but there were some cop out teams this year just because the regions weren't strong.

Maybe they should just do 4 from America and 4 from Canada, forget about the west and east malarky.
Just pick the best 4 from each country?

lol geographic selection is the PREMISE OF THE COMPETITION! of course they should not change it. The only thing that makes in unique is that it is then an Invitational in a generalized sense, instead of teams applying.

The system is fine, the objective of the competition seems to be to COALESCE bhangra, in all its forms and variety (which fluctuates MOST based on geographic location), and to bring them to one stage. All i was saying is based on success, NJ is not a qualified candidate for next year.

then call it regionals or something, the use of the word "elite" signals that these teams have beat everyone to become the 8 best...it should just be called Regional bhangra invitational or something to that effect...because it isn't actually the 8 most elite teams. and if you want to say that it's what the organizer's think is the best 8, than go for it, but it doesn't make the teams the 8 most elite, it just makes it the "teams a couple of people think are the strongest per geographic region invitational." I would like to see a competition that actually takes the 8 best based on objective criteria.

this is almost the only comp NJ comes to every year and its not gonna change.

let's b serious, before another team is selected over NJ, they will make this comp from elite 8 to elite 12 and pick up other teams

agreed except really, how much does rep matter over objectivity? thatd be my only question. but itd probably be dope. How about a Rivalries competition? Would be the most intense thing ever... like the Wrestlemania of Bhangra...

except theres not enough rivalries, or when they are, they cant keep em on limited to the dancer floor...

k done thread jacking.

instrumental at 2:17?

Not sure about the beat they mixed in ... but it sounds like a sped up/altered pitch version of Ludacris - Get Back

Elite 8's First Lineup:
Empire
NJ
VCU
SGPD
PANJ
AEG
Duniya
LBC

Elite 8's Second lineup:
Empire
NJ
VCU
SGPD
PANJ
PCBCA
VIRSA
APD

How is that "far weaker"? Three teams were replaced...the case could be made all 3 new teams are far superior to the last 3.

You seem to love APD..I assume you support their addition over LBC which had not won any competitions for years before. Although legends and my favorite west coast team from that era, LBC was not on par with the rest.

PCBCA has proven itself to be the best team out of Canada West and arguably had the best dancing at this year's competition. They replaced a Duniya team which also was picked on past rep alone and had no business at last year's competition.

Finally, it comes down to AEG and Virsa. Lets just admit this is where your beef comes from. Say what you will but Virsa has proven itself to be one of the best East Coast teams of all time and did perform this past season well enough to earn a spot.

I heard that to be selected for elite 8 you had to win more than a competitions. You had to throw a competition or start an academy? If this is true, how does throwing a competition make you elite, or starting a academy? To be elite it should be strictly on how many comps. you placed at, where you ranked, and maybe given brown points on for a sick set but not placing.

Your performance at Elite 8 should also be highly looked at if you get back in next year. NJ set was sick and elite 8 material. There were teams that were complete shit on stage and should not come back until they prove themselves again the next year...

even if NJ only competed at Elite 8 and put on a sick set every time, why not bring them back?

O hey Abhi. That was me who said that in the interview :D . Well i hope FAUJ gets a call from Lovepreet bai ji about you guys being invited to elite 8 next year. Well one of the things we spoke about was why should my team (Virsa: OT) be invited to elite 8. Well, my response was that, compared to other teams in the east coast, excluding VCU, obviously them being the 2nd pick, Virsa won more competitions. Next thing we talked about was, compared to other teams who we may have lost to us by 1 win or so, why should we still be invited.

Well, you know what we do? We spread Bhangra to far more people than any other teams in the east coast by not just performing, but because...

Now I don't pay full attention and count stats of all the teams that are active, therefore i don't know how many competitions Bhangra Empire won last year or a year before. It can be debated that ABC should have been invited, but i'm assuming, don't take this out of context, but ABC won a lot of competitions and the only reason Bhangra Empire was picked over them was because they performed in front of the President and the Indian Prime Minister and were invited for a photo shoot or something. (Props). Thats about it Abhi :) .

Sorry to all my veer on Nachdi Jawani for hijacking the thread; I don't post much, but everyone needs to calm the fk down. Talk about their performance, how the orange jodi was sick and the other good and bad about the performance, not fkin stats about a team and who or who shouldn't be invited. Shit.

Now post the eight performances from each respective year and ull understand what im talking about...and ur assumptions about where i am coming from are inaccurate...i am looking at this from quality of performance not team names and expectations...

maybe u should have assumed that too.

Jabar Veer, it wasn't a personal attack at VIRSA, nor did I see that interview. In fact I didn't even know it was VIRSA, it's just a comment I heard, that elite 8 is tough to get into because they look at more than the teams placings and they look at what you are doing for the community or giving back. Like you mentioned about the Empire vs ABC. If you notice I put a question marks after that to almost ask, is this true? But I see how your interview could be being taken out of context. My post was geared to the topic of of NJ and why they should be back at Elite 8. FAUJ has nothing to do with this discussion nor do i expect elite 8, just expect epic weekends at every comp.

again what I said was not an attack I was simply asking if it is the way it is, and why I think it should not be that way. :)

Out of SGPD, NJ, Empire, PANJ, VCU who should Elite 8 not have invited back?
