So according to the registration packet you are accepting 9 teams in total? which would mean 3 per category? or is it 9 per category?
Wouldn't 3 be a very small number for one category?

bro, if they were to do 9 per category, and have 3 categories, that would be an insanely long show. on the first page of the packet it says each category will consist of 3 teams and a first place prize for each category.

For clarification...there will be 3 bhangra teams, 3 raas teams, and 3 bollywood fusion teams.

You should make the fee refundable (if you aren't accepted) and charge a further $100 post registration fee to teams that are accepted. Given that you're in the middle of the country all the non-midwest teams will definitely have to fly and having a non-refundable fee is a big turn off. Given that the comp is in March and lot's of competitions are around that time in the spring, there is little incentive for teams to put down a 100 dollars and then also put down the cost for flights if there are other comps around the same time as well

I agree with Swi. Make the registration fee refundable. I can guarantee you that no new teams will apply if it is non-refundable. $100 might not seem alot, but it is for many teams.

This is false promotion. Shame on you! :)

All collegiate teams are competing for a grand total prize of $3,500 (Assuming the grand prize can only go to a team that wins its category). Your competition is giving out $5,500 in prizes. There's a difference.

The wording in the original post has been clarified.

true that...and my bad didnt realise the part where it says that...hey it'd b more time to sell concessions lol :D
but idk seems like if they're only accepting 3 per category thats a pretty slim chance of getting accepted maybe 4 or 5 would kind of increase the chances but I'm sure the organizer's have thought this out more than i did

3 per category is too sketch for me as well. I understand you're trying to put together a variety show but if you half ass everything, then the show as a whole won't be that good. just my 2 paise.

To be honest, there are lots of shows that involve multiple types of teams. We went to South Asian Showdown in Boston which was this exact format and we had a fantastic time and a lot of fun. What's so sketchy about it?

Judging could be iffy, but every team going in knows that the judging is hit or miss. Any Bhangra team going that expects a super traditional judging is kidding themselves. You know there are only 2 other bhangra teams, you know that the judging is gonna be w/e and that a bollywood team will likely win overall. you go to have fun, nothing sketchy about it.

Fair enough, but I would just prefer more teams to participate in each category.
