If your parents don't respect your interests, then I think you should lie to them and tell them you have stopped, but continue to do it without their knowledge.

I guess you could still be going to local comps, but iono what you would do for out of state comps.

Why do they have a problem with it? You need to be more specific...

Do they hate you dancing in general? Are your grades in school falling? Do they not want you to associate with certain people? Do they want you to commit your time towards something else?

You gotta be on top of your game & prioritize yourself no matter what you're doing in life,

My family members not going to specify which ones told me to stop playing dhol... here I am 2 years later and im making money by playing dhol at parties :) and I could not give a crap as to what they say as this is a fun weekend job, Id rather play dhol at parties and see a smile on someones fave and get paid for it which is a pretty good weekend job if you ask me since I enjoy it and because I can talk about dhol with my buddies when they need 2 or 3 dholi`s without feeling awkward, now im not saying rebel against your family but if you think you can do something good with it then don`t give up on it :)

Maybe emphasize the lifeskills you are developing by doing bhangra, such as teamwork, prioritizing, physical fitness, etc.

Basim's feedback is spot on. Why do they want you to stop? What's important to them? Make sure that you're still hitting everything they want you to do (like get good grades), and tell them this is how you exercise and stay fit.

Also, I remember plenty of people who took a semester off to study for MCATs. You gotta prioritize life over bhangra sometimes-- as long as you continue to visit BTF :p

Tell them Bhangra is the only shot you have at finding a wife.
basically lol

If bhangra really is your passion then your parents should respect that. Talk to them about why you enjoy it and how it benefits you. If they think it's distracting you from school, you're either going to have to step it up (in school) or take a break from bhangra because no matter how much you enjoy it, bhangra should add to your life, not take away.

Most of the time, parents dont just stop you from bhangra. There is always a reason, like bad grades in school, etc, but at the end of the day school/grades>bhangra. Don't get me wrong, bhangra is a passion shared and loved by many including me, but bhangra can't get you anywhere in the real world professionally. You can't get a scholarship, nor can you make it your dayjob and expect to earn a living. Strike a balance between the two and you should be fine :D
