the dhols he is gettin are VERY good quality and yes they do cost 7-800 dollars b/c of the wood quality and such. These are top of the line dhols. i know because my chacha gets them from the same area as well, who btw was a bhangra ustaad in amritsar.. and taught khalsa college kids as well not to mention dholis... if your ever there go on gt road nd right across from the khalsa college is our studio. My point is u cant judge the quality yet because you have not seen them... i have and there are great. you wont get no better kaali taal wood btw... so please wait for the pictures and see for yourself
The question is how much are the actual prices from the store..

you guys arent getting it......the reason the dhol costs soo much is because of the wood and the quality as mentioned like 100 times....i got my kachi pakki talli dhol from india from an ustaad and it cost me $500 canadian but it was so worth it becuase of the quality and expertise that went into makign the dhol. if u are a real dholi (professional or want to go pro) then maybe these dhols are for u. otherwise if u are a regular dholi like me who isnt planning on go pro but just play for the passion for dhols, then these dhols really arent for u.

But DJDhol-E, even for your top of the line dhol you only paid ~ US$420 (to keep everyone in the same currency). Consensus has been $250-350 for decent dhol, $450-550 for top of the line dhol... $800 is going to be very^2 hard to justify without sitting down and playing it for a couple hours to justify a difference.

$800 does sounds like too much. I got my dhol, i didn't have any knowledge about dhols back then so i got mine for Rs. 1500 which is like ~ $33. And recently i went to purchase a dhol, the dukaandaar offered me a kachi pakki taali dhol for $55. Ok so your saying a new dhol for Rs. 36000?

The highest quality Nagi dhol is approx. $650 if you get them from here.

Now if you were to go to the Nagi store by sheran wala you'll get it for a lot cheaper considering the companies over here are making profit and they are also charging you for shipping from India + Shipping from here.

I guess nana ji better have a video sample ready asap! I want to see how the $800 Dhol looks like!!!

If you spend $800 on a dhol, you better be the shit, that's the the only way I could justify buying it for that much... If I spent $800 on a dhol, I'd expect it to be delivered by Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta all of whom are carrying buckets full of butter chicken and naan feeding it to me one at a time...

I'd have to agree with that statement. For 500, I'd go for it...not sure about 800.

Sonny could you post some actual pictures of the dhol? I need you to convince me why these dhols are $800 with pictures and more detail of them. Oh and $75 for dhol case if a bit too much isnt it? I would expect the dhol to come with a case free..

Does anyone know the name of specific stores in Bombay or Calcutta where I can find a nice dhol?

I was looking at the Nagis they have on dhol etc. and was hoping to find it in Bombay or Calcutta.

Heres the link:

http://www.dholetc.com/dhol_sheesham.php

Or if you guys know any ustaads in Bombay or Calcutta that would be great too.
