MVP (as of November 1st): Clinton Portis & Drew Brees
Portis has over 940 rushing yards so far, thats over 200 more rushing yards than the second place rusher in the NFL. Not only that he has the ability to create his own holes when his O'line doesnt produce. His style of running is typical but efficent in a way that stresses pure speed rather than power. I'm surprised with his high level of durability and he is currently tied for second in rushing TD's this year.
Drew Brees: I had to put him along side Portis. Drew Brees is averaging 320 throwing yards per game this year and his TD to INT ratio is solid. Not only that, his ability to motivate his teammates is similar to those of Ray Lewis (if you don't beleive me watch a pre-game on NFL on Fox and they will show you his passion for the game). It was a shame to see Terry Bradshaw not put Brees in his top 5 qb's this year...i hope he regrets his decision. Drew Brees ability to throw the long ball is special, he can throw it 40-50 yards easily and make average wideouts look like superstars.
Surprise (as of November 1st, 2008): Buffalo Bills & Kurt Warner
Buffalo Bills: I live in Toronto and every year we hear how bad the bills are, but this year is different. The Bills D is simply incredible, just as good as their D a few years ago. Trent Edwards is the difference maker, finally buffalo has a QB who they can really depend on. Finally, Marshan Lynch is a power stud...you give him the ball 30 times a day and he will easily get you 100 yards. Not only that, he'll get you the yards that most running backs can't deliver on (throught the trenches, right in the middle of the D).
By the way, i hope the bills don't permanetly come to Toronto becasue the people up here don't truely love NFL football and its culture. Toronto's tailgate parties are a joke.
Kurt Warner: He is over the age of 36 and many have said he was washed up. After he left the Giants many said he was done. Now look at him, he has over 2000 throwing yards up to this date and his TD to INT ratio is incredible (14 tds to 6 ints). I'm surprised he's still playing yet alone still being productive.
This is a bigger issue...whats up with Mat Lienhart? its starting to look like he was a bust.
Disappointment (as of November 1st, 2008) - Seattle, Indy & Jacksonville
I expected all three teams to have atleast 5 wins by now. Indy is dealing with injuries, i have no idea whats going on with jacksonville and Seattle needs a running game. I hope all these teams can tuirn the tide and start winning more games.
(by the way, why is everyone sayin the Cowboys are a disapointment? they will win 11 games and lose in the playoffs again. Howie Long from Fox sports said this the best --> "the cowboys need a LEADER" -- good luck finding one in Big D).
I agree with someone else on this form on who should be rookie of the year: Steve Slaton. "I think for the team he is on, he has shown some amazing things. Matt forte and Chris Johnson are up there, but Chris Johnson has White and an insane defense, as does Forte. I just think right now , Steve Slaton 1, Chris Johnson 1a, and Matt forte 2, have to put D jack up there too...But slaton, wow, is a beast."
Defensive: Mr. Tuck from the G-men -- he has steped it up and taking the lead on that Giants D. He's an aggressive guy on the field who doesnt get the big play, but he does the little things well like getting efficent tackles and tiping the ball from time to time....whenever you watch a giants game you know he's a difference maker.
I'm reading a lot on the 49'ers. My take on this is simple...the NFL needs to impliment a policy that restricts teams to giving a lot of money to rookies, look what happend with Alex Smith and te 49ers.
THe 49'ers have a lot of great history and they will start winnng again the future but they need to get their finances straight. The owner needs to hold the finance/accountants for that organization accountable and build on defense, and an offensive line. Over the past 5 years i've seen the 9ers and Lions take the same approach in their draft picks (pick primarily Offensive players) i feel this was a mistake. Invest in a proper Oline to protect the qb a help establish an efficient running game. Invest in defensive ends, tackles and cornerbacks.
Shoutouts ---> Marvin Harrison and Issac Bruce & some of the old school players....i grew up watching you guys, i hope you guys continue to get the job done, its a shame you guys don't get more attention from the media and fans.
Best story: Matt Millen FINALLY GETS FIRED! , Aaron Rogers success, Lendaine Whites 10td's , Jason Campbels efficiency in the pocket, & my St. Louis Rams winning a game on the same weekend as Bhangra Nation
