North American All Live Competition - Proposal

So this is a proposal I made in the chat window that got a bit of a positive response, so I thought I'd go ahead and make a thread for discussion.

Obviously for any of this to happen an organizer would need to see this and take it into consideration. I'm hoping there is enough enthusiasm shown to do so (both from teams that would want to compete, and people that would come watch).

PROPOSAL: All Live North American Bhangra Competition with a 1 year advance notice to all competing teams. Ideally the rubric would be disclosed 1 year in advance, and ideally there would be a world-class judging panel (CHOSEN WITH THE INPUT AND/OR VOTES OF ALL TEAM CAPTAINS) specialized for live bhangra also announced 1 year in advance. 3-5 total placings so that teams are not spending 1 year preparing for an "all or nothing" scenario.

I'm curious to see which teams would be interested in throwing their hat in the ring for this?

Also curious to see who would fly/drive out from long distances to support the competition and watch it?

SEPBC would be game to compete.

We would compete! 1 year might be too long because a lot of things change in between.

We need more live comps! Bring out pappi Gill to sing for all the teams

Aman I think this is a great topic. Motor City Bhangra Competition would be open to giving this a shot next year. It all depends on how many teams apply.
Our rubric is already very traditional based as you know so there won't be any major changes we will ned to make.

But yes I am all up for ALL LIVE competition if I can get enough teams to support it!!

Thanks

Aman thats a revolutionary idea. We all look up to live bhangra teams in punjab, use their choreo and ideas, and we're yet to have an all live bhangra competition after all these years. Aman veere hopefully this competition happens, and hopefully this will encourage all music teams to try out live and see how much better live bhangra is than music.

Spartan Bhangra would definitely be interested! We are thinking (very rough concept) of potentially dancing as a live time some time in the next two years. If not, we would love to come and support the competition :)

This would be a sick idea. UK's done it with Folk Starz so why can't we in America as well? As long as a good 8-12 teams are interested and down to prepare a set, this would be a huge hit.

we Maan doabe da as a young live team from Cali would love the idea for this to take place, for the past couple years live comps and live teams have been on the decline but hopefully this idea is taken seriously and it happens and live Bhangra ends up on the rise once again!

U guys could ask Vasda Punjab if they would be interested. They won Folk Stars in 2012 and they are the best live team in the UK!

Wonderful idea. At one point, i'm sure Elite 8 and WBBC were just a dream like this but look at them now. We can make this happen!
6 months notice is legit. year out is too far

SPD (bay area; all-girls) will compete

Make it an outside mela as well. I would shoot for a May 2016 date, set the lineup next winter

Just make sure you have legit judges that know folk bhangra, not no randoms who have been involved in the scene since last year, Big Apple and Motor City always have the folkest judges i've seen till date. Best of luck to who ever wishes to accept this challenge!
