North American Audience Vs. India Audience

Why is it that Audiences here seem to be soo quiet and bored. I think if audiences got into performances like they do in INdia teams would perform much better and the whole competition atmosphere would be much more fun. Has anyone performed for an audience that has gotten into loike they do in india

The best crowds are at Mela's and Punjabi Cultural functions. In Richmond whenever we perform and a majority of the punjabi community is there, it is AMAZING

in india, those guys roll deeeeeeep! lol....hence there are so many young guys in the audience full of pride and when they hear boliyan or shers about their punjabi boli or anything relating to who or what they are.....they get crazyyyyyyyyyy

hahahaha I love watching videos of guys in india going nuts when they hear a crazy sher or speech. Ive even seen auntiyan like clapping like lunatics, its awesome. i wish the atmosphere was the same here. I think theres a lack of that sort of atmosphere here because people dont understand boliyan or translations as much as they do in india. Its so poetic. Just beautiful .

its might have to do with the fact that everyone there understands Punjabi...a lot of people who come to competitions don't udnerstand Punjabi....there for if there is a sick sher or a traditional move done a different way..they wouldn't know.

One of the best audiences I have ever danced in front of was at Punjabi Mela in Richmond, Va. It was simply amazing, when Surmeet was singing the sher in the beginning, everyone was going nuts, standing and cheering like there was no tomorrow.

it makes a huge difference in terms of audience if they can speak punjabi or not, a sher in the beginning soundz like gibberish to those who don't understand and that makes a major difference because the sher is supposed to set the tone and catch the audience's attention...so if it doesn't do that it may actually subtract from the effect rather than add to it...its always good to take the audience into account when doing a performance...

oh and another example when it makes a huge difference,

doing mirza to a non-punjabi audience (like a school show) can actually be a bad move, because its slower and therefore less appreciated, its better to do mainstream bhangra songs (ie. saddi galli) for those kind of shows...especially if its just an exhibition and a crowd pleasing performance...

mirza bolis are so meaningful if you understand them and know the history...

They really did roll deep for that performance. Man, they were just crowding that stage like no other!

The best crowd i've seen to date was when i was judging at ND Bhangra Competition in Surrey few months back. Those kids were making the auditorium rock...never seen a crowd like that...thats what you call mad support!!!
