Dear Bhangra Community,
It is with honor that the Stockton Punjabi Youth Alliance proudly presents to you Notorious Bhangra on July 14th, 2012 at Warren Atherton Auditorium located at the San Joaquin Delta College Campus held in the most notorious of all notorious cities Stockton, CA. Being a new Bhangra competition in Northern California, we are fully aware of the high expectations and standards set out by other respective committees and see forth to host a show that not only you will enjoy as participants, but you will also remember.
We know what you guys must be thinking..another competition in Cali? But this ones in the summer!
When the committee personally asked around about hosting a competition in mid July majority of the feedback we got was positive since mostly everyone is off from school and on summer vacation. The general output we got and those who referred back to us stated that a competition in July would allow more time for teams to prepare their routines and gives everyone a Bhangra competition to look forward to during the summer. Acknowledging the fact that the competition will take place during the summer which doesn’t typically happen often, we would like to sincerely apologize ahead of time if the date causes any inconveniences for any teams that were interested in registering.
With that being said, the competition will have 2 categories; Live and Music, with 5 teams representing each category and only 1 exhibition performance. Registration is now open to all collegiate and independent teams all across North America. We would like to highly encourage all teams to apply and submit in their registration packets along with fees as soon as possible. Prize money will follow as accordingly:
Live Category Music Category
1st Place: $2,000 1st Place: $2,000
2nd Place: $1,000 2nd Place: $1,000
An award will be given to the best dressed team and there will be a special guest performance by a surprise artist at the competition. A venue has been booked for a private team mixer (pre-party/formal welcoming event) the night before the competition on Friday July 13th, 2012. We will release more detailed information once the competition date approaches.
Registration deadlines:
Early Registration: $185 by March 9th
Regular Registration: $225 by March 23rd
Late Registration: $265 by April 20th
The participating teams will be announced on the week of April 25th
As far as the concerns of financially helping teams traveling from a far distance goes, unfortunately we will not be able to help with airfare costs for any teams coming from far away. But vehicle transportation, accommodations, and food will be provided for all teams once you have arrived and throughout the weekend as well. The Notorious Bhangra Committee will also gladly pay for 3 double bed hotel rooms for each team (including exhibition) for both Friday and Saturday and that goes for both local and out of state/country teams (in order to be fair) and to insure everyone to be able to feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease during the weekend of the competition with little to no dent on your personal pockets.
Majority of the proceeds from the competition will be donated to World Vision, an organization that Stockton Punjabi Youth Alliance strongly supports, that serves over 100 million different people in over 100 different countries across the world. As a participant you and your team will be indirectly help serve kids in famine, communities devastated with aids, and numerous people stricken by poverty.
It is a great feeling to know that you guys are all keeping our culture and tradition alive and promoting it in such positive aspects and having fun while doing so. Without you guys this event or any other competition wouldn’t be possible, so on behalf of Stockton Punjabi Youth Alliance we the Notorious Bhangra Committee would like to personally say thank you. We are looking forward to hosting this event with much excitement and preparation and we are far more than eager to review all of the registration packets. The complete registration process can be found on our official website along with other information. As a new and upcoming competition we are open to any criticism and suggestions. If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at notoriousbhangra@gmail.com for further detailed information you may scan through the registration packet and keep updated with our
