Dear Bhangra Community,
With a successful competition last year, we are eager to announce that Notorious Bhangra is back again for a second year in a row. We received tremendous amounts of positive feedback, great reviews from the Bhangra circuit, and look forward to seeing you guys coming out this time around in joining us in participating in one of the very few elite Bhangra competitions that are scheduled during the summer!
With that being said, it is with honor that the Stockton Indian Youth Alliance proudly presents to you the second annual Notorious Bhangra Competition which will be held on July 20th, 2013 at Warren Atherton Auditorium located at the San Joaquin Delta College Campus held in the most notorious of all notorious cities Stockton, California. Being a relatively new Bhangra competition in Northern California, we are fully aware of the high expectations and standards set out by other respective committees and see forth to host a show that not only you will enjoy as participants, but you will also remember. Acknowledging the fact that the competition will take place during the summer which doesn’t typically happen often, we would like to sincerely apologize ahead of time if the date causes any inconveniences for any teams that were interested in registering.
This year the competition will have 1 category, and will be a music only competition with 3 exhibition performances and a total of 10 teams representing the music category. Registration is now open to all collegiate and independent teams all across North America. We would like to highly encourage all teams to apply and submit in their registration packets along with fees as soon as possible. Prize money will follow as accordingly:
1st Place: $2,000
2nd Place: $1,000
3rd Place: $500
Music Category/Exhibition Registration Deadlines and Fees
Regular Registration: $250 by April 26th, 2013
Late Registration: $275 by May 3rd, 2013
The participating (selected) teams will be announced on the week of May 6th 2013
As far as the concerns of financially helping teams traveling from a far distance goes, unfortunately we will not be able to help with airfare costs for any teams coming from far away. But vehicle transportation, accommodations, and food will be provided for all out of state teams once you have arrived and throughout the weekend as well. The Notorious Bhangra Committee will also gladly provide local teams will with food throughout the weekend as well, along with a special discounted rate from the official competition hotel as well. We strive to insure everyone to be able to feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease during the weekend of the competition with little to no dent on your personal pockets.
A portion of the proceeds from the competition will be donated to World Vision, an organization that Stockton Indian Youth Alliance strongly supports, that serves over 100 million different people living in poverty in over 100 different countries across the world. As a participant you and your team will be indirectly help serve kids in famine, communities devastated with aids, and numerous people stricken by poverty.
It is a great feeling to know that you guys are all keeping our culture and tradition alive and promoting it in such positive aspects and having fun while doing so. Without you guys this event or any other competition wouldn’t be possible, so on behalf of Stockton Indian Youth Alliance we the Notorious Bhangra Committee would like to personally say thank you. We are looking forward to hosting this event with much excitement and preparation and we are far more than eager to review all of the registration packets. The complete registration process (packet) can be found below (converted into a PDF file).
Please send all portions of the registration packet completed and sent back as a collective unit (either electronically by scanning/emailing or through the mail in actual physical paper format to the address listed on the registration packet). As an upcoming competition we are open to any criticism and suggestions. If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at notoriousbhangra@gmail.com for further detailed information.
Thank you,
Notorious Bhangra Committee
PS -- We are proud to announce that the guest performer for Notorious Bhangra 2013 will be The PropheC
